did you delete the vendor.xml file?

507 just means that you don't have an OS loaded.

Upgrading right now. I saw .88 and got confused because I forgot that the Apps and the Package version have different numbers at the end. I see it's OS .71. LOL It's been a while since I've done an upgrade.

Update: Just finished upgrading the OS. No noticeable changes.

WOW, WHAT A MESSY UPGRADE!!!! When the original upgrade crashed while restoring the backed up programs and data, it really left a mess! I LOST all of my Blackberry messages and had to re-set up EVERY program I have. I also had to download and reinstall Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, Piconews (lost setup, of course), Voice Control, and many, many more.

Voice Control ceased to function (the left side convenience key is now inoperative, and the program will not initiate a request).

I went through and attempted restoration of all the individual data files from the backup just prior to the upgrade, but a lot of them would not port over. Just refused to go...

That's all the bad news. The good news is that this OS seems a lot faster than the last one I had.

Not a very technical statement, huh? -- while inside the Advanced Restore section, where I can select individual programs and data files to restore, messages, call logs, and other data files are greyed out on either the source or target side -- unable to transfer. MMS is gone altogether -- not even available in my Blackberry now. Is there a list somewhere of all of the Blackberry applications that SHOULD be in the 71 operating system

    Thanks!

    Tom

Re: New 8100 software Cingular App Version 4.2.0.71

well, i couldn't find anything...but just quickly looked.
this thread is great, but still, not definite information:
    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...100_guide.html

i've never used the advanced restore - as i just click restore and let it do its work...
as for the restore of some of the apps, not sure what has happened.
you will need to launch app loader again and scroll down in the list...you should see the apps you are missing. make sure there is a checkmark in the box located next to each application. you can restore all of your other apps this way.
i am *pretty* sure that the restore function on <backup/restore> is for data purposes only...

on MMS - that could be yet another OS issue. you may need to re-install for this.

have you resent your service books and registered your handheld? i always have to do this after an upgrade.
service books are sent from your BIS account or by logging on via the bb using the personal email setup icon
to register handheld, go to options>advanced options>host routing tables
click menu and choose register now.

the MMS service books should be located in the service books now...see if they are: options>advanced options>service books
you should have MMS Client [MMS] and MMS Transport [WPTCP]

**EDIT** also this thread might help...kind of the same instructions...are you tmo?
    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...light=t-mobile

let me know how it goes...

The HARDWARE (Pearl itself) is TMO, but I've unlocked it and use it on my local carrier, Edge Wireless, here on the edge of the Pacific Ocean..

I have no MMS entries in my Service Books.

**EDIT** I registered and resent my service books -- still no MMS.

you may need to call edge for the mms...was it working before the upgrade?? re-sending the service books should have fixed that.

did you get the apps back that you were missing?

i know this isn't what you want to hear, but you may need to RE-DO the install again...

hi rob - does what work with tmobile? the cingular OS?
yes. it does. there are stackers that are on tmo using a cingy OS right as we speak and before the cingy pearl was released, i was a cingular stacker, using an unlock branded tmo pearl on the cingy network. the only thing that would make it (your pearl) switch to cingular is if you roam on one of their towers (which you are allowed to do, but has nothing to do with the OS) or you place a cingular SIM card in your phone (AND it has to be unlocked first).

do it...everyone else is peer pressure

hoe can i do this? there are a bunch or extra things that i want to get rido of. i hate having my phoen cluttered. thanks.

I'll contact Edge Tech Support today before I attempt another upgrade, in case they have an answer to the missing MMS. Heck, maybe I don't need it anyway -- I've never used it...

I think that everything else is working -- I guess this is the price I pay for purchasing a TMobile branded Blackberry to work on a different carrier.

The problem is -- Edge will never carry any of the new Blackberry devices, because they are too far down the "pecking order" -- the other LARGE carriers have all the clout and all the money. Edge just now got an 8700 -- it's their newest BB.

I'll let you know what Tech Supp says.

    Thanks!

Re: New 8100 software Cingular App Version 4.2.0.71

Turns out to be a very OBVIOUS answer (DUH!) -- I have a TMobile-branded Pearl that I had unlocked, so it had T-Mobiles' MMS software installed. I never used it, or even tried it, however....

When I installed the 71 upgrade and had the crash, and had to reinstall the OS from scratch, MMS is not currently supported or distributed by my new carrier, Edge Wireless (they are "working" on it)...

So, I have nothing to fix ... it isn't even there~!

Thanks to all for your help!

    Tom
