    New 8100 problems :/

    Hey

I have to annoying problems with my new pearl 8100...I bought it unlocked in the UK, cause I have a Norwegian SIM which I'm using in it.
    It's really doin my head-in...

    - I don't have a browser on my phone.
    - I'm going throught the setup-up wizard to try and add my email address and the only options I have is "I want to use a work email account with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server" and "I want to skip email setup". In all the guides and documents it says I should have one more option, which I can't find anywhere.
    - I can't send MMS because my network provider doesn't have my phone registrered so they can't send me the MMS settings, so I have to enter them manually, but I can't find anywhere to enter them
    - My GPS doesn't work. I do have a CarWarehousePhone map thingy on my phone. Is it possible to download some other free GPS software onto my phone?

I've been reading about data-plans and service books, but have no idea what this really means. Espesically since I'm not using a UK network provider...

If anyone can just answer one question I would be more than happy

    Thank you in advanced!

I guess I should add that on all my other phones, there has never been a problem to send mms or use GPRS or anything like that....

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ The BlackBerry data plan and service books allow the BB to be able to communicate with RIM servers for access to email, MMS, web browsing, and 3rd party internet based applications.

I helped someone last week with the issue of not seeing the "I want to add or create an email address." but I don't remember what the resolution was as I have not seen that thread since it was resolved. Search for "no browser and no email setup" or something to that affect and it should come up.

    Hope this helps.

This unit is behaving as a phone with no active data plan, you need to contact your service provider and add a Blackberry Data Plan to your account...and the 8100 does not have GPS built in. MMS capability is also up to your provider.

Hope this helps a little, and welcome to pinstack.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Found the thread I was referring to but it may not help since you don't have a data plan.

Thanx for the reply. Yeah I've already read that thread, but didn't help me much.

What is a data-plan? Is that something you pay for once or is it something that's included in your monthly subscribtion from a service provider?

    Hey,

My service provider doesn't have a data plan for blackberry :/
Depending on what a data plan is.. which I haven't been able to figure out yet..

A Blackberry Data plan is generally an added service that you pay for. If your service provider does not support blackberrys or offer a service plan then email and web will not be available for you. Who is your service provider?

    My 2 cents.

In order to receive any type of email or internet connection you must have one of two data plans.

    1- just for email

2- unlimited data usage (internet, email, and w/e)

You must call your service provider to add that or do it through your online account with your service provider.
I have T-Mobile and the Unlimited Blackberry Service is $20 a month additional.

After you have been set up for what you want, you must send yourself the Service Books through your service provider's site, or have one of their rep's send it to you.

Once you have done that you should get icons for each individual email you have set up.

After that...the get your internet browser you must register with the network.

Menu>Options>Advanced>Host routing table>highlight the bolded numbers>open menu and hit register

You should receive a message that tells you that you are now registered with the network and your browser icon should show up.

    Hope that helps.

I have a Norwegian service provider called Combitel, but it runs through Netcom's network.

But I know that on their page they don't have any support for Blackberry, looks like I have to buy myself a new phone then... Find it really strange, cause it's not been a problem with neither SonyEricsson nor HTC telephones.

Your phone will work fine and your contacts and calendar can sync with your outlook, etc....just no data.

When you follow the others' advice about a data plan, don't waste your time trying to set up the browser, just download Opera, it's a much better browser IMO

With Blackberry Data Plans, email and internet are on the same service. There are no other data plans to choose from with Blackberry.

SonyEricsson and HTC devices are able to run on your carrier's data networks. Blackberry has its own proprietary network. Your provider has not signed up with RIM to offer Blackberry service, is my guess.
