So it is coming in October. Can't wait to see it as i've heard that the 8800 will not have a camera like the 8100 does.

    Enjoy!

Yes the OS update works with Tmo just download the new OS search your computer for the VENDOR.XML file and delete that file only!! run the DM and you will see the new OS as an update. It takes about 20-30 minutes to install and start running again so dont be scared while you sit and watch the hourglass spin for a while.

I'm assuming that I have to delete the vendor.xml file before DM will see the new software??? MY DM sees no new software and I also cannot find any vendor.xml file

    help

p.s. IN the About section of the Dm it shows the new upgrade and says that it is already installed

Open DM first, connect your phone to the PC, and follow the rest of the instruction.

    b0ldfacelies,
I believe the vendor.xml file is stored under [root]:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\, and you do need to delete it in order for the AppLoader to see this as an upgrade.

I ran into quite a few problems myself during the upgrade - DM lost connection to my device and refused to see it right before the restore, so I had to reboot PC and launch restore manually. After that the browser appeared to be lost and I had to re-enable it by updating the host routing tables.

All in all, it was worth the trouble, since the trackball glitch is fixed now.

I did this friday and it fixed my only issues with the 8100.

    1. It was not syncing the address book with our BES server. I know it was the phone because all of our 7105's work fine. The address book sync would be enabled on the phone but would show up on the BES server as not enabled on the phone. I tried everything and could not get this to work. As soon as I did the upgrade, problem solved.

    2. After a couple of days use, I would be scrolling through email and it would get stuck on one email. It would still scroll but once it was stuck, it would then select all email scrolled over at once. I found that pulling the battery would correct this but it would happen again after 24 hours. Not sure if it's actually fixed because it could be lurking.

Ok, I deleted the vender.xml file and installed ran the install, then I ran the DM and nothing happened. Then I uninstalled the DM and rebooted, and ran the install again. I then ran the DM and it kicked off the application loader and it did not see any new upgrade. I went to the advanced details and told it to backup my data. It then ran through the install and all looked like it was working. I then put it into standby mode and called my cell and it started ringing and I moved the trackball and it stopped ringing.

When I go to options/about what version should I see running?

Your version should be 8100/4.2.0.51. The ringer still stops, as it did before, now it starts back up again. You can also trype myver(space) in any message area and you'll see your version number.
