LiIon batteries die at an exponential rate of 5% per month regardless if you were draining it and recharging it every night or if it was sitting on a shelf. In about 1.5-2 yrs your battery is gonna be in need of a replacement.

It is possible that your phone was stored for a while on a shelf waiting for you to buy it or it was simply an old/bad battery.

My suggestion is to get a new battery, but make sure you know the manufacture date!

Isn't there a more powerful battery (but the same size as the original) on the market now?
