    Modem question

hi everyone, first post for me. first thank you all that post information here WOW! i have learned so much from the site i have only had my BB pearl for about two weeks now. me and my dad both got one and so far they are awesome...

we fiqured out how to use the BB as a modem for the laptop. we are on the road alot and dad is in love with this option. i am a country singer we get over 200 emails a day and this is a life saver.

the question is we both have unlimited data plan. if we stay on the internet alot from the BB and laptop. are we safe from being charged and does it use your talk time minutes to be online?

    we are with cingular

    thanks guys

    WHOA EVERYBODY....

Kayos - your profile indicates you are with TMO - indeed they offer unlimted no added charge tethered surfing. From what I have read CING/ATT DOES NOT.....and I have seen posts from folks who had very rude surprises when their bill came in. Morgan -- Suggest you get with your carrier ASAP on this - any Cingular subsctibers out there have more info?

I would suggest that - I am also with TMO and so not much of an authority on this but from what I have read even Cingular has different charges depending on the type of account and how long it has been open (old Cingular vs new ATT)....you can try a search or wait a bit and hope someone with Cing experience jumps on this thread later this afternoon. I would just hate to see you end up with a giant bill you dont expect !

    Good Luck!

hey michael glad to see you posting

i asked an account rep friend i have and he said he thought you had to have the laptop connect for 59.99 to be able to do that...you may want to call ATT back and make sure. i can't tell you how many times i've gotten one answer and hung up and called right back and got a competely different one just be safe than sorry...

    Re: Modem question

I just called cingy too and asked. I was told as long as I have unlimitted data I'm fine. I also noticed on cing's web page they changed the services for blackberrys. The only one that mentioned tethered involves BES. HUH!
