No. My buddy tried to put a HCMicroSD in and it didnt want to recognize it. I forget what brand. He worked for TMO and said he asked around and it is unsupported.

    4GB SD Card Support?

I'm sure this has been posted over and over before but I'm a 8300 user and my buddy wants to know what the largest SD card is for his pearl.

While there is a 4gb micro SD card, I don't believe the pearl OS recognizes it yet.

'Yet'? So there's a possibility thatRIM will release a firmware update for this?

    Re: 4GB SD Card Support?

Doubtful as the support is hardware driven and not software driven for the SDhc format primarily. If the hardware supports the SDhc format then the software update would work o enable it to be recognized (but all indications from both RIM and card manufacturers seems to lead to this device not have native support for that format).

The curve goes up to the 4gig card, most likely the new pearl the 8120 or whatever will take a 4-8gig card.

    Re: 4GB SD Card Support?

I'm not sure it'shardware related, as there was a firmware update previously that allowed the 1gb limitation to be upped to 2gb. I was assuming after a while it'll be released for the 4gb just the same.

    Re: 4GB SD Card Support?

I don't know where you received your information but at this time it most definitely hardware related (the only way that this would change is if the standard sd cards were released in a larger size, but I think that the 2GB is the limitation size of this media and the software was also updated to reflect and utilize this). The 4GB cards that are in existence, and the larger ones on the horizon, are all SDhc cards (the hc meaning high capacity). What this effectively does is it causes a higher recording compaction and in order to do this they are using a 64 bit structure for writing the data whereas the older non-hc cards utilize a 32 bit structure. As like in most other technology upgrades the hardware has the ability to be backward compatible (meaning the new slots will be able to read the older cards) but the older slots will not be able to read the newer technology. This is the reason that it is a hardware issue. From all that I have read these devices were made with the older (and cheaper) technology, hence the limitation in the card size and the fact that it is a hardware related issue.

    Re: 4GB SD Card Support?

I don't know how accurate it is seeing as I haven't tested it myself but many people in the new os 101 thread claim to be able to use the 4gb now on the 8100. Perhaps it is a software based issue or perhaps it will run the 4 gb.cards but at a reduced speed like with the Sony memory stick duo and their high speed counterparts

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the .101 OS update support 4GB?
