    Micro SD Card question

i have a 2gig card now, and i think i filled it up with enuff music already. becuz of this, my phone is slower, messages get erased, it shuts off on me and i even started getting this weird message i never seen b4..sumthing about an uncaught exception...dont really know wut to do about this...

i was wondering if it has sumthing to do with the low memory i have on my phone due to having over 150 songs on my phone, 20 applications and a couple pix here and there

i wanna know if there is anything i could do to keep my phone running in top/or close top knotch conditions or if i should just get a 4gig SD card

and if i get a 4gigSD card, could i transfer everything (games, applications, songs, etc.)i have on my 2gig to my 4gig? if so, how?

plz let me know...im getting real close to suplexing my pearl

thanx in advance for any info on this matter

It does sound like you are having memory issues. Check your device memory under OPTIONS - STATUS - File Free= ? And 20 apps will fill up your device memory, as well lots of themes. So long as you keep these in device memory it does not matter how big a sd card you use....

To find out how full your media card is go to OPTIONS- MEDIA CARD and check the free space.

In my blog you will find a thread that discusses tips to free up your device memory. Take a look and see if that helps.

    Post back any more questions!

You would have to use a PC to transfer your data between cards. Copy the files to your desktop then insert the new card and move the files to it.
Gary has you heading in the right direction to speeding up your phone again. When you noticed your messages getting deleted and stuff, its because when the phone is low on memory it turns on it device clean up program.

Yeah Ive heard of users having about 40,000,000 bytes free. So your are pretty low. Do a battery pull of your device then check the status again.

good thing for your blog...doing that ALT+LGLG and cache clean up brought me from 14571076 bytes to 15033772 bytes....not much...but its sumthing...lol...how do i find out wut OS im running? i want to upgrade to a 4gig and on your blog, the link speaks about certain OS's supporting 4gig SD cards...which leads me to believe that i might not be able to support a 4gig on my OS...

Options>About will tell you the current OS you are running. Theres a lot more tweaks you can do to the OS you install to help with memory. Im sure there posted in Gary's blog. But they are removing the preloaded video, and pictures, etc.. also you can edit the code so only one preloaded them is installed

    Ek,

Device operating system 4.2.0.xxx supports only 2gb.
    4.2.1 and 4.2.1.xxx support 4 gb

To check yours go to the menu jeff posted and look at the 3rd line down. Also you can this info ny holding down your ALT key while typing EACE

    EDIT

You can delete several of these with Desktop Manager / Application loader, others such as PTT involve a process of editing your core system files... How to remove PTT from AT&T OS

Applications cannot be moved to the sd card (actualy there is a 3rd party app for sale that allows this), only media.

    Try this folder location

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files

    As noted below:

and delete the ONE ptt cod file?

    then run application loader again?

    always works for me

i go to C:\program files\common files\reaserch in motion\ ...and from here i dont see shared or loader files...instead, i get these folders; AppLoader, Modem Driver, USB Drivers, BBBI Drivers and RIMDeviceMangager

as far as the 3rd party app that allows to move this..are we talkin about music, video, ringtones and pix only? or does this app also allow games and apps?

if it allows games and apps and everything else i put into my phone, where can i find this?

I bet you do not have your device operating system installed on your PC?

For the sd card application take a look here:
