Why does the pearl automatically open new email/text messages when you remove it from the holster? Is there any way to disable this function? Anyone have the same problem as me?

if you wait a couple of seconds after the alert, it won't. it is only when you hear the alert and quickly pull the bb out that it opens to the message...mainly because the bb thinks that 1) you heard the alert and 2) you are pulling out the bb to read the message that it just alerted you about. so it is thinking double time for you

    Hey Allbus,

Sadly there is no way to disable this function. Like the previous person had mentioned if you wait an extra two seconds it won't automatically open the message for you. If someone gets back to you with a real solution to this please hit me back, as I would like to know.

    Re: Messages in holster

depends on which holster you are using.
i use the tote from RIM and the magnets within the Pearl and the holster put the BB to sleep when 'holstered'. once you pull it out of the holster, it wakes up! just like a baby alive, 'cept it does pee or poo!

I have the one from seidio. Oh wells, I guess I just have to wait awhile after I get the alert to check the messages manually then.

    Re: Messages in holster

I purchased an aftermarket leather holster that has no magnet. The plus is I dont have to wait to pull my BB out of the case. Downfalls are I cant utilize sleep mode, or in and out of holster settings.

Oh yeah, no way to turn off that setting.

The only thing I can think of to stop opening your messages is keylock your phone. With the phone lock, messages won't be open to be read. Hope that helps!!!!!

Wait... What is this "in holster" thing. It automatically senses that it's in a holster?! How?! What?! WHY?!

The bb has a built in magnet and so do some of the cases. Once they *meet* it causes the bb to go to *sleep* or *lock down keyboard* without having to keyboard lock

Wow thats.....convenient....not. No way to disable this "in holster" setting? What a pain! I'm glad I'm getting a case with a zipper.

Its not a pain at all. Once you pull the bb out of the holster (be sure not to shoot neone with it) it wakes up. And you get tones and alerts while in holster. You can even set different tones for while its holstered.

    Re: Messages in holster

Thats too complicated... I'll stick with the non-sleep mode BB. But different tones and stuff could be nifty.

Yeah. Its cool. I use the tote sometimes, but mostly I use the silicone skin. Without using a magnetized holster, you will have to constantly remember to lock the keyboard (holding down the */sym key) or you may call or email someone on accident!

But that makes me popular if I accidently call or email someone 89874631 times in a day.
