    memory cleaning for pearl

I got a new cingular blackberry pearl a couple of months ago....my GF got heres around the same time but exchanged it recently for another one....we noticed that the new phone has a "memory cleaning" option when you go to options->security. When you choose this memory cleaning option some options comes out like "clean memroy ever 5 minutes/when idle"....etc. It even has cleaning caches/application memroy....etc
Now i have to mention that she has a data plan but i dont and the firmware on both phones is the same 4.2.0.69!!!
Was there a fix for memory leakage in pearl phones but only installed on new devices/ or you could automatically get it when u connect to the internet maybe?!!!!
Has anybody noticed this option in their phones??
Maybe people who downloaded the new firmware 71 could confirm if it has this option as well.

I don't have it, although that option would be really nice.
Edit: I'm on .71 as well.

It works! That's really neat! So cool to discover a whole new thing for the BB, even has a little icon for cleaning. I have tired it and have not a clue what it really did to my phone, I would really like it to be able to clear out my SMS outbox and call logs once in awhile (logs take up so much memory!). You also have to enable a password for this feature. =X

Wipe handheld is going to erase all the user data from your phone. This includes erasing all your text, email, address book, notes, personal settings, calendar, profile settings, etc. your applications will all still be there though unless you manually delete them either from your phone or DM.

Yes, the memory cleaner is only available with content protection on (Password Protection on).

    Hope this helps

Could this option help with the SMS / Call log deletion issue? As stated on other posts, if that is a memory leak issue, could this cleaning help? Also, does this clean memory in the background or does it need to be manually invoked? Thanks

hmmm not sure about that, but when memory cleaning does occur one of the areas it cleans is address book cache
