Did you enable media card support and format the card with your phone?

    Options
    Media Card
    Media Card Support = ?

Use the Menu key from here to get to the Format function.

And no, you cannot install a Linux OS on a BB device.

    First, Welcome to the stacks.

Second, Are you sure you formatted the microsd card before putting it in?

Third, nope, BB will only work with BB OS no others
I'm french canadian so I can also help you in french, just PM me
UNLESS it is for a BETA OS, it's at your own risk and I won't support it

So it is formatted? In a 8100? And it worked in that device?

Does your desktop see the card when you connect?

Did you have encryption enabled on the other device? Have you tried disabling?

Do you get the format option if you hit Menu while in Options-Media Card? If so and if you have a copy of the data on the card try to reformat and see if that helps.

Do you still have the other 8100?

I didn't get a format option when I hit menu.

and I turned encryption off, but it still doesn't work.

I restarted, and it still doesn't work.

Have you plugged the card into a PC or anything? When you say it doesnt work what do you mean? Does the phone say it has a media card in it and its just not showing the files?

Well, if possible test the card in the old device (or another BB device) and see if it is still recognized. If it is properly installed it sounds like a hardware failure on the device or a card failure...
