    Re: Mass Storage problems

For the record, I tried out my microSD card in a friend's Pearl, and it comes up fine as a Mass Storage Device.

But for the sake of completeness, it's a Nexxtech (Radioshack/The Source) branded card.

    Re: Mass Storage problems

Here is one we have not tried....

When turning on the Mass Storage Mode on the BlackBerry smartphone and launching Roxio Media Manager 9, the Media Card folder is not listed.

    Cause
The drive letter assigned to the BlackBerry smartphone is B.

    Resolution
Follow the steps below to assign a different drive letter to the BlackBerry smartphone:
    1. On your computer select Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
    2. Select Disk Management under Storage.
    3. Right-click the BlackBerry drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    4. Assign the drive letter.

Also suggest you check this -

The Media card is detected by the BlackBerry smartphone, but not by the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. On the computer, in the BlackBerry® Device Manager, an exclamation mark is displayed next to RIM BlackBerry SD USB Device drivers on Disk Drives.
    Cause
Encryption Plus® Hard Disk 7 software is installed on the computer.

The card is accessible to read and write on your phone. The card was formated using the FORMAT CARD command on your phone. You have mass storage enabled. The card is not visible the the DESKTOP MANAGER/MEDIA MANAGER application. I assume then that in this post you refer the the media application on your phone:
"EDIT: I forgot to say that the card works without issue in the blackberry, i can save to and read from it just fine with the media manager. Although when I installed it the blackberry never auto-detected it and asked me what to do with it, some people say this should happen?"

Have you attempted to read the sd card directly with your computer? And have you tried the different suggestion in ed scotts thread (check for encryption software, update drivers)
my honest mistake, i meant the media manger within the blackberry, otherwise known as the 'media' icon. Didn't even realise i said that without properly explaining myself haha

I did check the drive letter assignment, it was actually one of the first things I tried because my computer will often assign whacky drive letters to things.

The card is an A-Data one, obviously a smaller cheap-o brand. We sell them at work so I was able to pick it up for pennies, we sell blackberries to and I know that many buyers use these cards with them without any complaints or issues, so I dont think it could be the card?

For who asked about the phone, I bought it used off a guy from a local classifids site. He told me he used a media card with it at the time i met up with him and he did not mention any problems with it. However, I just emailed him the other night to ask more info on this because I'm starting to think he may not have been as reputable as he seemed!

I guess if all else fails, I sell it off (making the buyer aware that mass storage won't work) and I buy myself another one. I could get a refub one at work or ask a buddy who works at rim to buy me one at his cost. But being a poor teenager, I sure hope that if we all put our minds together here with everyone else having this problem that maybe we could dig deep and uncover an answer!

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry if i seemed rude last night - was up wayyy past my bed time with this issue hahaha

    @ mindabsence,

I originally asked because my phone is also an unlocked T-Mobile Pearl, but I purchased it as a refurbished model from an outlet store in my city (FactoryDirect in Ottawa). I already exchanged it once with no improvement to the MSM (Mass Storage Mode), and we seem to be exhibiting the same symptoms, so I wondered if there was a link.

wow, that's certainly interesting to know. We have one common link now. Anyone else with this problem happen to be running an unlocked (t-mobile) blackberry?

I work at our Kitchener Factory Direct actually. The guy i bought it from 'claimed' it was purchased from an american retailer brand new.. but he also claimed the mass storage worked for him!

    Small world, eh?

My first Pearl I picked up from FD had a missing pin in the USB connector (as you probably know from my other thread), but to have two unlocked T-Mobile units suffer from the same Mass Storage problem seems kinda fishy.

I'm wondering if they don't open DM, if they can see it with the Windows explorer.

Also, if they're running the 64 bit version of XP or Vista, they need to have special drivers, otherwise the USB doesn't detect anything...

    Re: Mass Storage problems

Both my work and home computers are 32-bit (Windows XP Professional 32-bit and Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, respectively).

Edit: I also want to add (to ensure everyone has the same info) that my friend's Pearl (with my microSD card installed) connects to my computer properly with Mass Storage Mode.

64-bit is a negative for me too, all machines it's tested in have been XP Pro SP2. I've also tried it in an XP Pro virtual machine running service pack 3 RC1. no luck in any

Have either of you tried a different card in your device?

I unfortunately don't have access to another card to try (the life of a nearly broke 17 year old haha)

    @ GaryF

That's the next thing on my list. We didn't try it the last time because my friend and I chalked up the malfunction to the USB connector with the missing pin. I'll scrounge up another one from that friend the next time we get together.
