    Mass storage mode settings? Huh?

Ok. I'm not getting it. I'm attempting to access my media card (which I did at least once about a week ago) to add music files, and photos, etc. I get error messages about "mass storage in use". I've gone to the settings for the card and attempted UNsuccessfully, obviously, to switch the settings around, and I still get error messages regarding the mass storage in use. I would really like to know what the default settings should be to both access the card, and add files to the card ---- I don't want to change settings each time to access the card. Can someone help me with settings for the card to be accessed and used for transferring files? I have no idea how I got the ONE music file transferred --- but of course now I can't access it anyway. And....many thanks.

You can not access the Media card via the pearl, while it is in mass storage mode.

    Only through the PC.

Mass storage mode is used on just about every device that uses a memory card I.E. Digital cameras.

For some devices it allows access to the card.

I personally prefer mass storage mode so I don't have to mess with DM

have you ever seen those data sticks in ie. wal-mart? they come in various sizes from 256MB all the way up to 4gig. i think this is rims attempt to have you use your phone as a data stick i know i do. it eliminates the purpose of me having a data stick. plus i was always losing them(i hate data sticks) cuz they are so small. i have never lost a phone(knocks on wood).

Mass storage mode will allow a user to place or remove files from the pc to the BB memory card, instead of having to use a memory card reader.

If you dont have mass storage mode you must take the memory card out of the BB and use the memory card reader to access the card.

Jumping in here .... so, if I want to add MUSIC and VIDEO files onto the installed 1 gig card I have, using the DM program, I should have the card in Mass Storage Mode? I was unable to access the card using DM until I TURNED OFF Mass Storage Mode???

Being new, I may be doing everything wrong. This is a GREAT phone, but WOW, what a lot of features!

Techytom, That is the way DM works, If you use Mass Storage Mode, you can use Windows Explorer to use the BB as a USB memory device. To use Desktop Manager you have to turn it off.

So I take it that while in mass storage mode, you transfer music and photo files by dragging and dropping them in your desktop web explorer or with My Computer?

yea, if you have autorun on your PC on it should just bring up a menu and ask you what you want to do. It also should pop up as a removable disk for you PC.

Re: Mass storage mode settings? Huh?

    Hi,

I'm new to the forums and have the same settings as those listed here:

    Media Card Support:On
    Encryption Mode: None
    Mass Storage Mode Support: On
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when connected: Yes
    -----------------------
    Total Space: 1.89GB
    Free Space: 1.89GB

But for the life of me, I cannot get my Pearl to go into Mass Storage Mode when I connect it via USB to any of my computers. Does anyone know what could be going on here or other settings I should be looking at?

    THANKS!

Mitben - do you have desktop manager open? If so close it. Then plug bb back in to usb cord.

Fob - you won't be able to *enable* mass storage mode without an sd card.
