    Hello dortgies,

Thanks for the suggestion: The work computer gave me the message that it cannot find any "better" drivers than what I already have, but I'll have to try it out at home to see if that may "refresh" the connection between the Pearl and the computer.

Also, I noticed when my friend plugged in his Pearl, not only does it load the "Blackberry Smartphone" device, but also some other USB controllers. I'm not sure of the exact names, but there were at least 4 or 5 of them, like USB Storage Controller, RIM Mass Storage Device (etc... again, I'm not sure of the exact names).

Mine seems to only install the "Blackberry Smartphone" device.

    Re: Mass Storage Mode Problems

Hello I have had the same problem you are experiencing since Blackberry "updated" their desktop manager software. The newest version has Roxio included in it and would not recognize my Micro SD card. In fact it prompted me to format my card which I have a 1GB card and about 900MB of used space, so formatting was not an option at that time. I uninstalled the "new" version of desktop manager with Roxio V4.3 and reinstalled the "old" version of 4.2.1.8 that does not have Roxio bundled with it and voila media manager recognized my card with no problems.

So give that a try and let us know the results as there is probably nothing wrong with your device but something within the media manager with Roxio software.

that's actually one thing I haven't tried yet - I shall within the next day or two.
Hopefully it'll fix my media manager problems so I don't need to keep taking the card in and out. But shouldn't mass storage mode just work on any computer without the BB software too? I was under the impression that mass storage would let me use the media card like a USB jump drive essentially.

Yeah, it still doesn't explain why my friend with a Pearl, using MY memory card in HIS phone, is recognized as a Mass Storage Device (completely bypassing the Media Manager) but mine is not.

That same friend has another idea that we want to try, but it'll be a while before we can test it out because I've been brutally busy these past couple of days/weeks.

hey just giving some advice that I had with the same problem on my phone and my girlfriends same device pearl 8100 with the same problem you have. I understand it makes no sense maybe your friend has a different version of desktop manager? My brother in law actually has a 4gb card in his pearl and has no problems accessing his in mass storage mode without the "updated" Desktop software. This fix is really simple use the older version of desktop manager without roxio and you will be able to leave your card in your device and your worries will go away.

    Re: Mass Storage Mode Problems

Hi everyone...I'm fairly new to all this so I apologize if I say (type?) anything silly. I have a Curve and up to a few days ago, Roxio was recognizing the 1 GB microSD Media card with no problem. Today, I plugged in my Curve and while Roxio recognized the BB and the "Media Card", when I click on Media Card, I am seeing the files that are located on my flash drive (also plugged in to the computer). It says it's the media card but I can clearly tell that it is not reading the Media card but the flash drive instead. I have tried the following: format the media card, format the flash drive, Mass Storage Mode on/ Auto/Prompt. Nothing seems to work to recognize the media card.

The media card is working on the phone and I can hear my music and see photos but I can not access it through Roxio.

When the flash drive is not plugged in, Roxio only recognizes the BB.

I am going to reinstall DM next but I wanted to see if this was happening to ed_scott0013 as well.

Any direction you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Mass Storage Mode Problems

Did you figure this problem out?
If not, my guess is that it is a drive letter or path problem, meaning that another device is using the drive letter that the media card wants to use. That can be changed under --> Computer Management --> Disk Management --> Change Letter & Drive Paths

    Re: Mass Storage Mode Problems

Okay... apparently my message just got eaten by the Internet fairies, so I'll re-type out an abridged version below:

    @ jhami525,

It's an interesting thing to bring up, since I have a flash card plugged into the computer at most times (I use Windows ReadyBoost) so there might be some conflict there. I'll try it out tonight without the card in it and see if that remedies anything.

Edit: I tried it out at work (no flash drives installed) and Media Manager still can't find the Memory Card.

    @ mjohansing & dmaes,

When my friend and I tested the two different Pearl 8100's (his works properly and mine doesn't), the only thing different was the handheld itself. My memory card was tested in both, and both were plugged into my computer (not at the same time, of course). We both have the updated OS in our Pearls as well.

    @ Everyone,

My friend suspects some sort of low level functionality restriction. I've had two Pearls with this problem (the first unit which was exchanged, and my current unit). Both were purchased from the same place, so it's not beyond reason to suspect that they all may have been "gimped" during refurbishing.

We're going to try to see what's set up in the Pearl (my friend has some special software that was given to him as a promotion when he bought his unit), and maybe we'll find something out of whack with what's supposed to be there. We'll keep you updated.

did you ever have a chance to try a differnet (known working) card in your phone?

Not yet... I've been quite busy these past few weeks, but when my friend and I get together to try out his plan, we'll do a quick card swap beforehand.

    Re: Mass Storage Mode Problems

Here is a quick summary of what worked (and didn't) so far.

Case 1: My Pearl + My Memory Card + My Computer
Nothing in My Computer or Device Manager. The only device relating to the Pearl in the Device Manager is Blackberry Smartphone. No missing drive letters or extra non-assigned devices appear in the Computer Management tool.

Case 2: Friend's Pearl + My Memory Card + My Computer
Mass Storage Mode enables and drive B: appears in My Computer. Blackberry Smartphone, Blackberry Mass Storage Device, RIM USB Mass Storage Device, etc (not 100% sure on the names, but there are at least three or four of them) appear in the Device Manager. Files and folders are visible and everything seems to work properly.

Case 3: My Memory Card (Card Reader) + My Computer
Computer can read the memory card directly when plugged into the card reader. This is the workaround I'm using right now to get goodies on the phone.
