Canada makes the best quality materials because are standards are soo high. Thats why when you buy things made in Canada they are soo expensive.

My replacement BB pearl was made in Mexico...working fine so far. I have no clue where my first BB pearl was made, but it had trackball problems big time. I guess it's kind of like buying a pair of Doc Martens...made in China or the original UK version. I'm just hoping the BB I have keeps working, but I'm still under warranty.

Re: Made in Mexico vs. Canada

I have a few 8100's (three actually). Two of them are made in Canada, and one in Mexico, at least that's what the stickers under the batteries say. I say that because the one that is supposed to be from Mexico displays the Canadian MySpace page when I use Opera Mini. Also, coincidentally, the same is true (only visa versa) with the Canadian Pearls. Maybe the sticker shipments to the two factories got mixed up?

Oh yeah, one more difference I've noticed. The one supossedly from Mexico has a cleaner looking backlight. What I mean by that is, when the backlight for the keypad is on, the keys on the "Mexican" Pearl looks more like H.I.D. headlights (like on a BMW or Benz). While the backlight on the Canadian versions, look more "dirty". I kind of would expect it to be the opposite, what with the desert landscape in Mexico and all.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~two 8100, one from Mexico, one from Canaca, no issues on either. Just bacause they have sticker saying Mexico, canada ect doesn't mean they were made there.

Really? I must have misplaced my grasp of the English language. I could have sworn that, "Made in Mexico" and "Made in Canada", meant just that. Foolish me, I'm so embarassed.

I would be interested in knowing how you came to know the origin of your 8100's.

Country of origin stickers are taken very seriously by U.S. Customs. Intentionally tampering with them carries severe penalties.

This whole discussion, and the fact that it keeps popping is kind of weird. Though not unanimous, some of us seem disappointed if it's Made in Mexico- or assume the quality is somehow sure to be better if Made in Canada. And this assumption is based on what? Sure, stereotypes are sometimes rooted in reality. Mexico is not exactly known as a manufacturing powerhouse. But then again, I don't think Canada is either. The wages the workers make in the two countries may well be a political discussion for another place, but should have nothing to do with the quality of the end product if the company is running their business correctly.

Mine is from Mexico, works fine. Not that it matters, it's completely anecdotal. It's one of millions of Pearls out there. The only statistics that would matter on an issue like this are Cingy/TMO's or BB's internal stats on rate of return from various production facilities. I doubt they will share that number with the world.
