    Light Sensor?

Does anyone know exactly where the light sensor is on the pearl? It seems at very odd times is the only time the dimness on my pearl changes from bright to not so bright...

I belive it is on the top of the pearl on the right hand side. It dims in low light because the idea is the you don't need as much light when it is dim outside. The only reason I figured out where the sensor was is because I got one of the skins for the pearl, and that is one of the places it leaves open. Hope that helps!

Yeah, I think it's at the LED spot. When cup my hand over the top to direct the audio my way when I watch video, sometimes the auto-dim feature kicks in if I'm covering the LED. It's a little annoying, but what can you do?

Whoever thought of autodim was just plain stupid. I mean after about 5 seconds of not using it it goes into autodim, its is SO ANNOYING.

OK I have an idea. With all the people we know on here, someone has to know the person at RIM who took it off. I say we hunt that person down and make them put it back on! Who's up for a witch hunt?

Actually the light sensor is located at the bottom left of the phone as you're holding it facing you. When I cover that portion of the phone or put it in the holster...that's what triggers the screen to go dark.

I believe that is what activates the sleep mode, not the autodim

    Re: Light Sensor?

The autodim is located in the LED light. The sleep feature when you holster the phone is activated by a magnet in the flap of the holster. Try holding just the flap of the holster near the keyboard of the Pearl. (This is the OEM Blackberry holster I'm speaking of but any magnet would probably do).

I've posted a few times but I'm relatively new to Pinstack. I'm glad to see there's many knowledgeable, helpful, people here and I'm happy to assist anyone if I can,

    Cheers,

Oh ya, the autodim feature sucks but the phone itself is brilliant.

    Re: Light Sensor?

    Tylast,

Are you sure you are activating it and it's not just going to sleep due to the Timer setting for the backlight turning off? Does Removing your finger from that area bring it out of "Sleep Mode" or do you have to press a key?

    Rcbjr.

I'm not sure how that works on your phone, it doesn't work on mine. The magnet trick does work though. Maybe your Pearl is a different version.
