Keyboard Intrusions of the Third Kind

    Dear Pearl, dear RIM

I love you, I adore you, but -- will you please give me a single-point adjustment to DISABLE all Suretype, spell-checking and sundry modifications?

    ITEM

When I type "il", I do NOT want it "corrected" to "I' ll". It happens to be a French pronoun.

    ITEM

When I type "mn", I do NOT want it expanded to "minute". It happens to be a rendition of the Greek letters <mu>, <eta>.

No, I am not going to go through input language switches.

Yes, my spelling is just fine in all the languages I use.

No, I do not need any assistance.

Will you PLEASE find me a way to terminate this misguidedly paternalistic monitoring of my keyboard?!

    Thanks!

    The... Linguist

When typing, just go to the Menu and choose Change Lanugage. You don't have to go through Input Languages. Sorry if this does not solve your problem but that's all I can offer.

Uh what? I'm still looking up paternalistic. I'm so un-edumacaded.

What languages do you speak other than the obvious?

Thank you Erica... the point is, quite often I write/receive mixed-language posts and emails. OK we avoid mixing fonts as much as possible, but still, there may be quotes in French, Italian, Spanish, German, English or Greek -- whether we are discussing literature, politics, music or current affairs... There is no way ANY form of Suretype/spellcheck can keep up with this.

It DOE SNOT seem possible to do so for English in the first place!!

Ziminvades, some of us in Europe are kinda crazy [Never mind that I live in the USA, I was born and raised in Europe.]

Take the Dutch now. They keep MISSPELLING the definite article... instead of "THE", they write "HET" !! It's "het", everywhere!

Imagine that -- nationwide dyslexia. RIM's spellcheck ought to teach THEM a good lesson!
