I'm assuming you mean in the BlackBerry holster? This has a magnetic device that the
trackball will sense and disables once it goes into the holster. You can still receive calls
and get all alerts. It is just a screen saving feature that also saves battery life.

Yes, if you have a case or holster that has the sleeper function it will have a properly placed magnet, that once it make contact with the appropriate sensor in the phone will put it in "sleep mode"

yeah im talking about a blackberry holster case.. reason i was asking is because i wanted to get one of those rubber boots that go on the phone itself to protect it and wondered if that would cause it to not work right ...

You mean a skin for your BB? It should still work, but just may be a little tighter fit when going in the holster. as long as the trackball can still contact the magnetic area on the holster, it will go into sleep mode. You shold be fine.

Yes it will. I have the holster from Seidio: www.seidio.com and at one point carried exactly that way. I have since gotten rid of the silicone sleeve. Just seemed redundant.

Lavagirl, on my Pearl if I take a magnet and put anywhere near the trackball, front or back nothing happens, but if I move to the two gold colored things next to the battery cover release it goes to sleep. Just curious.

Thanks Reddog. I just wanted to make sure I didn't give out wrong info.

really any magnet will work...its near the base some where. If you have one lying around just wave it near the base it'll flip right off. Doesn't matter which side either.

so would a rare-earth magnet be smart to use? Something about magnets and electronic devices/memory chips scares me.

    Re: In holster question...

Not sure about that. I don't think you want to use too powerful of a magnet. I have no experience in this either and I would not want to be the first to find out.

Magnets and Electronic devices don't play very nicely sometimes.

Usually the magnets in the cases/holsters are pretty weak. The blackberry has to be basically next to it to activate.

So I would be careful VeryBerry
