    IMAP email on Pearl

Ok I am thinking about switching from my new Treo 680 to a Pearl, now that Cingie has it. But since I have never had a Blackberry device I have a question about email.

Currently my company runs a Blackberry server on their Exchange server so my work email will be PUSH. But I was wondering about my personal accounts. I have several (two IMAP accounts, and 1 GMAIL account).

My question is, how will I have access to these email accounts? Do I use BIS and just have it login to my email accounts and get email? Or can I do something else? Also will all me email accounte be kept separate or at the very least designate which account each email came from?

    Thanks for the help!!

    Hello joco, welcome to pinstack.

You will need to access your imap account through your BIS. Each email account, except the exchange server, will have its own icon on your home screen, so you can differentiate...

However, all emails will go directly into your messages icon, and be filtered to each individual icon as well. Does this make sense?

    joco, Welcome to PinStack.

You may want to discuss this before you purchase the Pearl. Your BB Admins may have a policy against allowing access to the BIS.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Would my BIS access be limited even though I do not get my phone from my company? They just have Blackberry server as a convenience... However, just by setting up my phone to access my exchange server, would that just limit my access to BIS?

So what you are saying is that I will have two ways to read my email.. one will be a combination of all my messages and the other will just be each email account?

Understand, that by connecting your BB to the Company BES, they are allowing you to access the Corporate Network from an external device. They have the right and duty to protect that network and can, and I emphasize can, limit what devices that are connected to their network do.

I'm not saying that they will limit your access to the BIS, but that they can. This is why I suggested you ask them first. You may not like what the IT policy they install as part of the BES Setup does to limit you use of your personal BB.

That was just trying to let you know what you can face when connecting a personal BB to a corporate BES and wanted you to get all the information required to make an intelligent decision berfore you made that decision.

I currently have the exact situation that the original poster is in. Currently im using regular Black Berry Internet connect, for 3 different accounts (2 imap, 1 gmail).

I come from PPC devices, which were syncronized with microsoft exchange push. I forwareded a copy of my imap/gmail to the exchange account email. That way all my messages were pushed to my phone. However, the disadvantage was, i only had ONE reply email. I could not select what address my messages were coming from.
I was under the assumption that if i upgraded to BES, that my accounts wouldnt really change function, just be syncrnonized constantly with the server. that way my current filters setup on blackberry internet connect would still work.

from what yoru saying, it seems the system works similar to my old PPC way (with microsoft exchange).
I coldnt forward one of my accounts to my pushed mail, because it needed a filter (so all the 200 messages a day wouldnt be transfered).
This is one of the reasons i went with blackberry in the first place.
Can someone clarify exactly how it works?
You guys mention, the pushed messages come directly the message tab? and not per each account? Does the BES have a dedicated email address that the server provides for you? If thats the case, can you setup a different reply address (for the BES account)? and can you setup more than ONE? or perhaps, when you reply, you can just select the sending account (through regular blackberry internet connect email).

My terminology may be wrong, so i appoligize in advance. Im a newbie to the BES, and have read all the setup faqs, etc.

My service is Cingular, w 8100.
