    IM+ / APN problems with T-mobile

I have spent hours reading forums and searching the net, but nothing is working for me. I just signed up for service with T-mobile and have a voice plan and the BIS (blackberry unlimitted personal) plan. I am trying to set up IM+, and it works fine with HTTP naturally, but it won't work with TCP. My TCP settings were blank when I started. I have tried wap.voicestream.com, internet2.voicestream.com, blackberry.net, all with and without my.t-mobile.com login/pass. I just get "logging in" with either port 30,000 or 443 in IM+. The only one that is different is when I do internet2.voicestream it says logging in, then redirecting connection, then it sits on "Try Connect...".

I called T-mobile, asked for a blackberry person, not sure if I got a true expert, they were just PDA support I think. They said that wap.voicestream.com was in there by default, which it was not. They told me I couldn't do TCP with BIS, which I am pretty sure is wrong.

Anyone have any ideas? Do you all think I just have those ports blocked and someone who knows what they are doing needs to unblock? This is driving me crazy!

Set the apn to wap.voicestream.com Then do a battery pull. It should work after that. If not resend your service books and reintall IM+

I use wap.voicestream.com. Im+ works fine too. Perhaps you need to reset and resend service books like ripvtech suggested.

Did all of that, no luck. I installed IM+ from the desktop manager, can that affect anything?

Do you also have trouble using other online applications like Opera?

    Installation type doesn't matter.

We have a list of recommended APNs on our site:

But using TCP/IP can be prohibited by your tariff plan. Perhaps, you need to sign to another tariff plan.

    Re: IM+ / APN problems with T-mobile

Ok, this is tough, but I "think" what worked was the resending of service books. Let me try to explain. When I first got my 8100 I did not have access to my email due to a server problem at T-mobile affecting new accounts. When I'd go to do "Internet email settings" it would take me to a page about signing up for T-mobileweb. Well, after resending my service books, the hard reset, etc, I could not access my email setup on my phone again. IM+ also did not work obviously. Well, I wake up today and check to see if I can now access my email settings, and I could. I go fire up IM+, which I had left set as TCP, port 443, and it works perfectly. So, either the hard reset or the service books worked, it just took some time for my phone to get totally recognized by all services again.

Maybe those of you who know more can make sense of what I did and which things could be delayed, and draw a better conclusion as to which it was specifically.

    Re: IM+ / APN problems with T-mobile

I have solved the problem on my phone, thought to share the solution with people who have the same problem, by the way I am with 'T-mobile' UK (tarrif includes instant email + 'web-n-walk' internet access).

First of all, You have to change the TCP setting by going to 'options' -> 'Advanced options' -> 'TCP', fill in the following details:

    T-Mobile (UK)
    APN general.t-mobile.uk
    Username: user
    Password: mms
    or
    (One2One)
    APN: general.t-mobile.uk
    Username: Username
    Password: one2one

    T-Mobile (USA)
    Go to Options->TCP (or Tools->TCP)
    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username: Your T-MOBILE Username
    Password: Your T-MOBILE Password|
    or
    APN: internet2.voicestream.com
    Username/password fields are blankT-Mobile (USA)

Save the changes, and then do a hard reset(restart) - take the battery out, and put it back in.

Once it is restarted, your phone will re-register with your service provider, and all the changes you made on TCP will take affect.

Then you should be able to use the third-party applications that require Internet connection like 'IM+', 'Opera mini' etc.

    Hope this helps...
