If you chose to upgrade you wil have added fetures such as docs to go and html emails. As far as a word program I am not sure other than the docs to go.

What version of the OS are you using? if you dont know go to Options > About and it should be 4.X.X.X or something like that, either 4.2 of 4.5

as for Microsoft Word, in the OS 4.5 there is Docs-To-Go and it has that.

If you decide to do it you can go here and find an OS to work with your device. AT&T does not have the 4.5 for the 8110 so you would have to find one from another carrier. To learn how to install it to your device you can look here. Just remember if you chose this route you will have to delete the vendor.xml from you pc.

You get newer and more stable (theoretically) software along with addition of new software and features that they have made available. It really depends on what you may need from the new os on whether it is pointless to upgrade.
