How the pearl saved my a$$!

So yesterday I'm scrambling to get a project on a server for the biggest client I've ever had and lo, my Comcast internet will no longer upload a file bigger than 120k. My files were 9mb!

After frantically isolating the problem to Comcast, my deadline loomed ever closer. Suddenly, in my greatest moment of despair, I recalled an article posted by my friends at Pinstack, an article that would change everything.

I was able to use my Pearl as a bluetooth modem under OS X. Granted, it was the slowest of slow upload speeds (4k up, 160k down), but it WAS consistant. It got the files online, and the client is happy.

I should probably learn where the closest free wifi is around here....

    Thanks Pearl!

That's a good back up plan. Does any one know if my 8700c can be used as a bluetooth modem. I use it with the mini usb as a modem all the time.?

Just last night I took in my IBM Thinkpad and 8100 to a law class I teach.

I hooked up the Pearl and went on line in an instant.

Told the class about the Pearl, T-Mo's unlimited data plan and said:

"Although the speed is slow compared to broadband or DSL, 115K is great for on the road or in an emergency should your service go down."

Good to see your story as an example of emergency use.

It really is a great phone - but I'd love to do more than 4k upload. Seems weak compared to the blazing download speed.

Best part is, while it's in the process of uploading, it's still getting emails and phone calls.

I'm sure my old SDA could do that, too, but it would require getting an engineering degree to figure out :-).

    I doubt it. There's a limit to technology :-).

Sorry, but no you can not use the any BlackBerry prior to the 8100 as a Bluetooth modem. SharkModem has a beta that was able to do it (not very well), but it has not been released yet.
