How much data do you use each month, what do you do?

I'm trying to find out how much data these things use in a month, if I was to casually browse the internet every day, and download the odd email. Also what is the best browser to use. What I'm trying to do do is get the best data plan from Rogers so I'm not charged for data which can be very expensive.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~im on t-mobile and the BB days plan is $20 a month unlimited. Plus with the extra $10 a month I get unlimited text and picture messages. I think its a little on the high side but at least I don't have to worry about overage charges. Does Rogers have any plans like that?

    Soundspeed:

    Welcome to the best world!

I've been on Rogers for years, and with BlackBerry for a year and a half.

There are two promos right now, either 50% off for 3 months, or no limit data for 3 months.

Take the no limit at the lowest price plan available. Then monitor your bills for three months.

There are $40, $60, and $100 plans, 1 MB, 25 MB, and 200 MB. And from the web site it suggests that only the $60 and $100 plans are on the promo.

I would be considered a moderate to low-heavy user. I have BES and BIS, and do all my emailing from my BB. My average is about 25 MB per month. However, I've gone over a few times, and the extra fees for going over were more expensive than the $100 plan, which I have now.

If you do just email, with a bit of web, then go for the 25 MB.

However, if you find that you're going well over, then switch up to the $100 plan before your promo ends.

Avoid the voice & data plans. They're a rip off. You'll get a better voice plan buying it separate from data. And you can pair any voice plan with a BlackBerry Data Plan.

    Soundspeed:

Q: "the odd email". What do you mean?

If you register with Rogers BIS (which you should do), you will get ALL your email.

Compared, email uses very little data as opposed to web browsing. If you only did email, you could possibly get away with the 1 MB plan.

If you've got any questions about Rogers plans or services, feel free to PIN me.

Re: How much data do you use each month, what do you do?

Thanks for the replies. My usage would be mostly web surfing, I do all my email through my home computer so that's what I mean by the odd email. So what I'm trying to get a handle on is how much data these things go through with web surfing. There seems to be no way to monitor the amount of data you are using so I thought I'd ask here to see what average usage is. By the way I know you can check the cache in the browser to see how much you've used, but, mine seems to reset itself along with messages and call log on a regular basis, so that useless.

Fortunately, there have been few, if none, BlackBerry bill related suicides in Canada.

The question could better be stated: why are American prices so low? Prices that low cannot foster profitable growth!

The other thing to consider is that your market size is quite large, and has far more carriers offering the same services.

At best in any Canadian market, there will be only 4 carriers. And then, if you want special services, such as global roaming, or national roaming, or a specific device, then you're left with only 1 carrier to choose from.

With a monopoly on service, and millions of customers willing to pay your fees and no competition, there is little, nay, no incentive to reduce prices which will reduce profit.

Just a thought. How about swithching to an american company. On T-Mobile, I have the "family share plan 3000", no roaming, free nights and weekends, free mobile to mobile and did I mention NO ROAMING.
    BOOYAA!!!

Sounds like a good idea, but.....

#1 - is that USA roaming, or international roaming?

#2 - Canadians don't have credit ratings in the USA (on average, that is)

#3 - even if we could get past the credit rating thing, you'll likely need a USA credit card to pay; and the volatility of your dollar is not something to lock in to over a phone contract

#4 - an american phone number? Who would or could call? No one from Canada!
