Confirmed. If you are talking about the shutter sound it cannot be turned off.

It's really annoying. I thought I might be able to delete the wav file but I can't even find that.

This has been discussed some in the past and generally, it seems that there is a security risk to having a silent camera.

Regardless, I don't know of anyone who has figured out how to stop it from making noise.
    As always, just my opinion...

Yes. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure a part of this has something to do with the problem of lude photos being taken of people without their knowledge using a phone camera. Having it silenced makes it easier to get away with such things. Quite an annoying solution but something we have to live with because of sick people in this world.

OK, there is a work-around for this. I read it hear, and I've tried it for myself. It's not easy - and I'm not going to judge people that want to use it...

Place a phone call > turn the volume all the way down on the handset > activate the camera > take a picture. On my Curve, I get no shutter sound.

One more thing... If you are taking a picture for nafarious reasons, MAKE SURE TO SHUT THE FLASH OFF!

I just called my voice mail then turned the camera on while keeping the call active. It does work!

I bought a Razor post 9-11 and I can silence that camera. I think it was a business decision made by RIM. They make phones for the corporate world and behave like it.

Oh good that works. I had WalMart fail to put oil in my car after an oil change and blow up the engine. They tried to deny fault and claim 5 quarts of oil leaked out in 5 minutes for other reasons. So I had the debate with the manager with my BB Voicenotes recorder running the whole time. I wanted to snap a few silent pictures too but didnt out of fear of the shutter noise. Glad to know this can be circumvented, thx.

(Ending up threatening with a lawyer so they just gave me their insurance providers number who covered the costs)

Placing a call works well. If anyone knows how to edit the crypto files stored on the BlackBerry you can change the HASH number for the camera. You could also edit the camera file to delete the shutter.mid file from it. You'd need to do both because when you change this file the phone wont recognize it due to the crypto file's hash for the camera and the camera files hash being different due to the change. I've searched through the cryto file but haven't found anything relating to the camera, so I gave up my search. Best bet is making a phonecall.

Do you have any evidence to support that claim?
