I've taken video with my dig. Camera and been able to convert it on Super c . Then using desktop manager to put it on my Pearl. Here's the interesting question....Can I do this process and instead of click and drag the converted file to video...drag it to ringtones file folder and have that video play when the desired person calls that I have designated for that ringer?

Why not just try it and find out if it works?

I doubt it works. But interesting indeed. It doesn't matter, I don't think you can set a video as a tone though. It'll say something like, "invalid file" or something.

When you go to menu options after highlighting a video format file it will simple not give u an option to set as phone tune. It's not really about the folder it's located at but rather it looks at the file format.

    GotPearl,
It doesnt have to be in a ringtone file, but as long as it's a music supported format.

Yes I can convert vids but can't make them be ringers. The idea would have been to record a specific person asking me 2 pick up. No dice though! Was a cool idea at first though.

I think it's actually a very good idea sucks u cant make it work, but u could like record a persons voice and then use it as a costum ringtone, but it still has to be an audio file.

    Peter,

Could you please explain the procedure you use to get an audio file in the music folder to be used as a custom ringtone for an exception. The only thing I can set them to is the Phone Alert in the Active Profile.

    Thanks for your help

    Hey Rcbjr,
Ok unless we are talking about tw diff things heres how I do it:
I find a song/ringtone any audio file and I convert it usually to an MP3 format then using my USB I transfer the file to Media>Music folder or even to Pictures folder then from there I highlight the song/ringtone hit menu>set as phone tune. There, whatever alert it is set to, my costum tone works fine whenever I get a call.

    Thanks, Peter,

We are talking about two different things. From the original post.

drag it to ringtones file folder and have that video play when the desired person calls that I have designated for that ringer?
Your process only sets it as the Phone Ringtone in the Active Profile, Not as a Custom Ringtone for an Exception Ringtone from the Address book. Or for any other alert tone.

This is probably just semantics. I based my definition of "Custom Ringtone" to be what Blackberry devices show when you go to assign one to an Individual contact in your address book.

    Thanks for the explanation.

HA HA, Yep we're talking about diff things. I didnt notice from the original thread that we're talking about costum for an individual contact. In that case, yes u are right, the song has to be in your "Ringtones" folder only.

Glad we got that figured out lol
