    Question Help reinstalling OS

I installed the latest DM (4.7) and downloaded the latest OS (4.5) from AT&T. I do not know what I did but I end up wiping off my bb 8100. There is no OS installed!!! I have a circle with a 507 underneath. I have tried several things but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Besides the thread Dj recommends I would also suggest Desktop manager 4.6 rather than 4.7.

The error for this link is: "The backup process does not recognize the databases present on the device. The error I found on my log is: "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x00000005]"
I wonder if I uninstall DM 4.7 and Install 4.6 would make any difference?

If you decide to uninstall 4.7 I would suggest doing so and then going to c/program files/common files and deleting the research in motion folder and then rebooting your PC. Then I would install 4.6. Also if you are trying to upgrade I would suggest wiping your device using jl_cmndr and then upgrading. If you are not sure on how to do any of these things check my blog for how to guides and post back with any questions.

    Iam,

In order to guide you we probably need a bit more information. You are correct, the 507 error indicates you have no operating system on the device. Now, I am assuming you have tried to reinstall the device operating system unsuccessfully? What happens when you try this?

I downloaded the DM first and then proceed with the upgrading of the OS; silly me I was supposed to download & install the OS first, then proceed with the DM and upgrade the OS.
I have tried several things trying to put back the OS including running the DM or through the cmd line using "loader.exe /nojvm" however, both instances while it appears it doing OK when it gets to the point of "initializing device" it fails because the DM does not recognized that my bb is connected (I have it connected through an USB). By the way Gary, I have tried several of the approaches shown on "Gary's Favorites links" I even tried to use JL_Cmder unfortunately, there is nothing to wipe since I do not have an Operating System! Any more ideas guys?

I tried to install the OS (for the tenth time) using the Application loader of the DM and this time I got a different error message:
"The desktop loader is unable to connect to the device"
"You may need to enter the password on the device"
By the way I used to have my device password protected.
In advance, thanks very much for all your help.

Are you sure you are being patient enough? It is common for the device to cycle on and off during installation. Are you actually getting an error message on your PC that the installation failed?

Also you may want to check your USB power management settings to make sure they are not enabled.

Unfortunately, I do get the message (after waiting forever) that the desktop manager is unable to connect to the device.
btw when I removed the battery and put it back on I saw momentarily code 561.
It reverted back to 507 within few seconds

So this error occurs during the operation, as in it starts to load and then fails?

When I had that issue I ended up loading the old 4.2 OS. Had to use a different machine to install 4.5 (you might try that)

First you might try this link. It should load the latest OS from your carrier....See what happens:

I have successfully downloaded OS 4.5!
Thanks Gary for suggesting using another computer. My Vista computer would not run JL_Cmder. When I tried on XP I was able to run it and wipe off the password and bingo I was able to proceed with the installation using the Desktop Manager. Thank you everybody
