Ok so I just got a 8100 and I want it for the music player. I am totally confused. Do I HAVE to buy a media card?? And if I buy a SD card, how do I then get downloaded music onto the phone??? Do I then have to buy a card reader??? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Or do I just download my music using the USb cord through the Desktop Manager???

Hello ash and welcome to PinStack!

You will definitely want to get a media card as the onboard memory of BlackBerry devices isn't built to handle much more than a few applications and such.

You will want to download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager which you can get here. I'd go for the version WITHOUT Media Manager and instead, get BlackBerry's new Media Sync to assist in moving media from your PC to your media card, especially useful if you use iTunes at all.

Great deals can be had on microSD cards these days. I've seen 8gb cards for as little as 27.00 on the likes of Newegg and other places.

You also might want to consider upgrading the OS on your new 8100, but if this is your first experience with BlackBerrys then I would suggest waiting a bit until you're more comfortable around the device.

    Hope this helps!

    Roger

you don't even have to use desktop manager.just select mass media mode on your media card options.then you can open the bb just like another drive and drag/drop then.

Yes buy a micro sd card (bestbuy)and insert under the battery. Then Options > Media Card > select media card support. Connect your BB to your computer via usb and your card shows up like a hard drive. Copy your music from your computer's drive to BB/music folder. Then main screen media > music and enjoy!

    good luck

Thanks. I think I got it. I guess we will see. There is just so much that this can do and it is alittle overwhelming at first.

Actually, with the windows explorer, u can do it too.
I do that with my curve and my sister do so on her pearl.
The roxio...something, is a little slower and sometimes it downgrade the quality of the mp3 to 128kbps without even ask.
