    Help - Dead Pearl

I have been asked to assist with trying to bring a pearl back to life - I have a black screen and the red indicator light blinks 1 then 3 times - thats all. When I connect it to my PC, it can not detect it. I am trying to wipe it using the information I received from previous threads to no avail. Not sure if there is a way to clear the bios - is that even possible? Phone is only about 1 year old - and from what I have been told, it has not been exposed to water. Any suggestions?

    Re: Help - Dead Pearl

First of all, thanks for responding. I have followed the thread you mentioned and realized that I have been down that path before. I understand that I need to reload the O/S on the Pearl but I can not get the unit to be detected by my computer. Is there a way to reset the handheld device without connecting it to a PC?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~i don't think there is a way to reset the device from the handset. I hope I'm wrong. I'm doing this from my phone but have you tried connecting to the pc without a batt. If you haven't try that and if it works put the batt back in on the second step of the process

I have tried connecting it with both the battery in and out. No joy what so ever . I was hoping that there would some sequence of keys to press to reset this thing - I guess not. Not sure what the next step might be - maybe a stylish non-working phone toy for my 7 year old?

You will need a PC to try to get the device working.

    Re: Help - Dead Pearl

No matter what I try I can not get the handheld to be detected on my PC. I have tried connecting other devices to my PC and they connect fine (that means the USB cable is good). I have tried replacing the battery in the Pearl with a known good battery - still get the same error blinking lights and a black screen. If there is not a way to clear what ever is in "memory" on the phone with out connecting it to a computer I think I am out of luck.

Are you using the Desktop Manager Software in conjunction with the USB connection? Like RD mentioned, sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it connected.

What carrier are you on? Worse case you call and verify it has warranty still and tell the the "5" button doesn't work. They will walk you through a few steps, play along and just maintain the 5 is not working. They will issue a warranty exchange(if under warranty) and then you can start over. What company are you with?
