HELP: My 8100 has stopped connecting with BB Desktop Manager

I can no longer connect my 8100 to my Blackberry Desktop Manager to sync.
My company runs Windows 2000 and Office 2000.
It is not the fault of the 8100 or cable, because I have tried alternatives and received the same issue.
When I try to connect, DTM reports "Disconnected".
When I try to find the connection via File - Open - Application Wizard - detect connection (to search for the ports), it reports "unable to connect to device".
My IT dept. suspects that this may have resulted from a recent Windows Security Upgrade (patch).
Other 2000 users are experiencing the same problem in my company - but not XP users.
Does anybody else know of this problem, or a solution, please?
We have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled DTM and all the drivers (including fresh, downloaded versions).
    Things are becoming desperate!
    Thanks

I don't think the re-installation of the OS will help in this case.

Since you've narrowed it down to the security patch then unfortunately if its recent then I Don't think anyone has come up with a work around.

Hopefully some one will see this that knows a work around.

    Oh dear.
This sounds like it could take a long time to fix?
Does the possibility of the windows 2000 upgrade causing the problem, ring any bells with anyone, or is it just a red herring?
    Thanks

Yea there has been that issue with windows 2000 and the last security update. For some reason it has caused a connection issue.

Excuse my ignorance, but is this the sort of thing that MS fix, at the next update, or is it the sort of thing that RIM fix - in which case, how do I find out when the fix is available, please?
    Thanks

Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with Windows 2000 and what that last patch actually "fixed" I would think this would be a MS fix. This is complete speculation though, but if you problem began after the "patch" then I would try and get in touch with them or someone who has a bit more knowledge about this sort of thing.

    Sorry I'm not much help
