Of course anything is potentially vulnerable to hackers, but most wont spend their time trying to hack the average joe's blackberry... celebrity's maybe.

I have logged on to all kinds of sites even my bank with no problems, over many years... maybe they just dont like me.

the blackberry is a pretty secure device (I mean even the government uses it). But if you want to be extra safe try enabling the security features that are provided for the blackberry. Check your help section for more info.

I bought my Pearl thinking the Marine Corps would let me use it for work purposes... Apparently only issued phones are allowed. D:

90% of the "hackers" today are reading C for dummies books and executing Pearl scripts off their "Auditor" live discs... oh, so much hate and discontent!!!!!! So therefore, I wouldn't worry about it. But keep your information backed up at least and don't do your banking on your BlackBerry.

Re: Hacking into other peoples Pearl

Don't worry about people "Hacking into" your Blackberry via a website, that is so unlikely as to be almost impossible, given the number of gateways the webpage must go through, and given that there aren't any provisions for the browser executing arbitrary code. Not really a concern.

Banking websites are fine too, since the Blackberry browser (and Opera Mini) both support SSL.

Remember that 99% of "HACKING" isn't hacking at all, its social engineering. Even 'famed hacker' Kevin Mitnick usually got what he wanted by engineering PEOPLE, not computers.

Don't be afraid of people intercepting your EDGE session packets, cracking the SSL, sniffing your password, and blah blah blah. Worry about them stealing your backpack while you are in the bathroom at Starbucks. Why bother sniffing passwords when you can steal 100 laptops a day by wandering through your local coffee shops during busy hours?

The only way for someone to do real damage to you via a blackberry is if they have possession of your blackberry (and you keep sensitive information on it).

    peace,
    sam

Re: Hacking into other peoples Pearl

One thing to keep in mind is that I have had experiences with cell phone internet (not necessarily on BB though) where somehow I would go to a website and be logged in as someone else...

The best I could figure is that the wireless proxy they were using got assigned to me midsession for them (ie they left myspace logged in at a certain ip address and that IP address got assigned to me to use shortly after and for some reason the webpage left me logged in thinking I was someone else).

Since I think most cell phone internet uses a similar process of proxies and relaying connections this has always worried me about passworded sites...
