I bought my husband an unlocked pearl on eBay (different seller than the one I bought mine from). I inserted sim and now it is asking for a pin. I have NO clue what this could be. Any clues/thoughts? What is going to happen when I enter the code wrong?

You'd have to call t-mobile for the pin and/or puk code...

Even tho I'm cingular? What exactly is a puk code (pronounced puke? Like I wanna sound stupid if I have to call up Tmo)?

If you activate the phone with AT&T (i.e. call and give them the IMEI #), they can give you the PUK code. Actually, you can even find it online, when logging in to your account. I ran across that the other day. I'm not sure if it will be there immediately following activation though (probably not).

Re: enter PIN code (1 left)

PUK stands for Personal Unlock Key. It is generated by the computer system and is an 8-digit code tied to your sim card. Cingular/at&t has that code and can give it to you no matter who the phone was made for.
The thing to worry about is whether the code you are seeing is based off the sim card or is one for the phone. The way to test that is by putting the sim card into another phone and seeing if it asks for a pin code. If it does not ask for a pin code then you may be running into a security setting that automatically activates when a different sim card than what was in it when the security feature was activated is inserted. Not sure (since I haven't investigated it) whether BB's have that capability but I know it exists in Nokia Symbian OS phones and some other models.
