~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Outlook is not the only software that you can use to edit your addresses/contacts. When you set up your desktop software, there is an option where you configure how you want it to sync your device and PC. Check it out!

Thanks nabitheking, any free software that works well with it? I looked through the list of programs on there and didn't see any that I had.

I believe what nabitheking is saying is, use the blackberry desktop software. You can get 4.1 or 4.2 software and when you set it up you get option as to how the software interacts with your BB.

merlik, I don't know of any free PC PIM that works with Desktop Manager, but All is not lost. With DM 4.2 at least, you can export your BB Address book to an ASCII character separated text file and use a text editor on it, then import it back into the BB. Open Desktop Manage and use the Help syncronization settings folder, read all the topics on ASCII import/export.

    Hope this helps

Rcbjr, thanks for the ASCII tip. I exported and as long as I line up the commas correctly it works great. Thanks again.

If you have Excel, you can import it there and edit it.

How can you use Excel? When I try to sync up my BB it doesn't give me that option - only ASCII, Outlook, Lotus, Novell and Sage ACT! Am I missing something?

    bengoheen, Welcome to PinStack.

I was talking about the file created when you use the ASCII option in the Syncronization Settings. Open it in Excel, making sure the settings for the separation character is the same as when you sync'ed

    Hope this helps

Ok this may sound dumb, but how the heck do I import my address book using ASCII ? I have searched and tried new things but can't seem to figure it out. Thanks in advance for the help!

bengoheen, Exactly what are you wanting to do? Do you have an existing address book? Do you need the explicit instructions for syncing you BB to an ASCII file using Desktop Manager? Or just how to get the file you created into Excel?

Trying to understand where to start.

Yes and Yes I don't have an existing address book on my computer to import to the BB. I do however have a ton of contacts on my phone's sim card that I need to completely re-organize and figured this would be the best way. Is Outlook easier? I can get Outlook sync'd up easily.

Re: Editing address book on computer.

If you have Outlook, it is a whole lot easier to do than using excel and syncing ASCII. As to getting your SIM card Contacts off the PC, I'm not sure how to do that, but it's the first step. After you copy your SIM contacts to your BB address book, just sync with Outlook.

    Hope this helps

I appreciate the help! I just thought Excel would be easier but I guess not. I'll just go at it using Outlook. Thanks.

Ok, I exported it calling the file address.csv and then opened it with Open Office Calc which is a free spreadsheet program and everything worked great. Just make sure to save it as a .csv file after editing as well.
