Dropped 8130 in water.. screen full of water, now what??

a very close friend of mine dropped her BB 8130 Pearl in about an inch and a half of water (here in the south, we get rain - not snow - for winter)... we're going to leave it w/batt & SD card pulled out for 24 hrs, but I can see her screen is *full* of water.
I'm certain the provider (Cellular South) will charge her an arm and a leg to replace this... I'm very electronically inclined so, any & all advice welcome... plz only post if you know what to do.. my girl is a single mom of 4 kids - cannot afford to purchase another phone atm.

    TIA

put it in a bag of rice. if it's that full of water you might want to change the rice periodically. i would wait several days before you try to power it...maybe a week.

Take it apart. Set it in a bag of rice and apply light heat to wick away the moisture. Gl~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

i *really* want to pull the front cover off.. if I do that, will the phone go back together properly, as if nothing ever happened?

yeah, that would help if your comfortable with doing it. your warranty is shot anyway so give it a shot.

this is a video from an add here on pinstack. The video is for the 8800 and 83xx models but i thought it might give you an idea on how to remove the front cover. http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...FRKIxwodempfCw If the water is actually inside the LCD screen, I'm not sure if it will do any good. I hope this helps a little. I would try to dry it out for a couple of days first.

If all else fails she can try:
BB Repairshop to send it in for repair (might be cheaper than a new one off contract)
    or
    cnn.cn for part replacement

I did that a while back, all I did was pull the battery, cover, and sd card and set my phone on the dash of my car on a nice hot, sunny day. evaporated all the water away and the thing still works like a charm about 3 months later. hope it helps.
