I don't want to beat the Emergency call issue like a dead horse...but

My BB Pearl is my 9th or 10th mobile phone. I seem to remember a feature one of the Motorola's and an Audivox i used to have. It would not let you store a known emergency number in the address book.

    Excellent feature..

because IMO people who store emergeny numbers are fools. Emergency services made an easy to remember three digit number for a reason. Now with that said... Why in gods name would RIM hardcode that number, and make it accesable via the roller ball??

I have been reading up, I see that there currently is no way to edit/delete that option. Does anyone here work at RIM? Or sorted out a way to change that feature.

and yes, I know I can use the Stand bye feature to get the same result as the KB lock. But IMO the emergency call feature is complete RUBISH.

    discuss.

I thought it meant that you could make a call while the kb was locked. Maybe I have always misunderstood the feature because I never use it. I know you can answer a call while the kb is locked if you have the lock enabled.

My buddy had and I went over the same argument the other night. But if you think about it I requires at total of 4 trackball clicks (while locked) and moving down either 2-3times (I have the call option while locked enabled) via the trackball. This is all open face. Now if it was in a holster with the magnetic in it then it wouldnt even awaken from standby.

So really RIM didnt do to bad of a job. Sure accidents a freak occasions occur but out of the millions of phones they will sell I dont think it will happen often especially with the older Click-Wheel models.

It hasn't happened to me, and it won't since I just use standby. It use to happen all the time with my OLD Sony Ericsson T610 for some weird reason. Oh well.

I just never like the KeyLock because of how many buttons you had to push to get out of it. I'm just a one button kind of guy. Call me old fashioned or just lazy.

Now with password protect it's a whole lot of button pushing....UGH! hehe.

You have to look at this as it would be used in your classic Die Hard scenario. If John McClane is being shot at within a terrorist occupied office building and he finds a locked blackberry. HE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO DIAL 911.
Build a man a fire and he shall be warm for the night. Catch a man on fire and he shall be warm for the rest of his life!

Actually I think the alternate user idea is a valid one. Say I'm in a car wreck with a friend or coworker, I might be fatally wounded or close to it. I'm probably not going to be able to tell them how to get it unlocked. I can think of a dozen other reasons where you wouldn't want to fumble around with a key lock just to make a 911 call.

On a different note............you can dial 911 even while it is locked and press send without having to go to the Emergency Call option on the lock screen.

One thing more... I hope that should I ever need to make a call like that and don't have time time to unlock it, that I can still navigate the little trackball menu. Some keybindings would be good.

That's excellent news. Saw that after my last post.
