Does upgrading the OS void your warranty?

Hey, sorry if this is an obvious question, but does upgrading the OS on your BB void the warranty? I have T-Mobile and I was thinking about upgrading to the new Rogers OS, but I'm kind of sketchy with doing anything that will void my warranty because I had to send my first BB back and get a replacement...

    Thanks,
    Mox

My understanding is that technically, yes it will- with your carrier at least. (Understandably, TMO will not want to have their paid support people spending time solving a problem that may be caused by a Cingy or Rogers or Italian OS) In previous threads the standard advice has been to change the OS back before sending for service if at all possible. And don't volunteer info about your OS in any case.

many people volunteer too much information. t-mo is one of the nicest providers, but they still will look for any excuse to stick you with you paying the deductable (if you have insurance) or leaving you stranded with a malfunctioning phone (if you're still under warranty).

what they never find out won't hurt them.

I used to be with Verizon and I did all these SEEM edits (because as you may or may not know, Verizon's user interface is THE WORST!) to enhance the functionality of my phone. I ended up giving the phone to my mom after I got the BB, and I undid all of the SEEM edits beforehand just in case she had to take it to Verizon for any reason.... so I know the dealski

    Thanks for the advice.

If you use an OS provided by your carrier then it will not void your warranty, other carrier's OS will void the warranty.

Technically it is not permitted by BlackBerry to install any OS that is not provided with the service you carry. Look at the fine print. Kinda scary.

What are you doing here cp arent you stuck to the 8700/sprint forums....? LOL

I want a pearl, doesnt that count?

As said before, if you use a different OS just leave that out when troubleshooting your BB.

Like Sprint will every get one. Thats why I made the jump from my Sprint 7250 to TMO. Way cooler BB's.

Oh yea cp is Sprint going to get the World Edition dual mode 8830 like VZW?
