If you enable the password under Options>Security Options>General Settings
You can set it to lock itself after 1,2,5,10,15,20,30minutes or 1hour.

Of course you have to input the password when unlocking it.

Be sure to remember your password because you can wipe the device by entering it more than 10 time(10 is the default but this can be changed also from 3-10 atttempts)

Re: does the 8100 have an autolock function

    It'll do that now.

I can't post URLs yet, but go to geekandproud.net/blackberry/autolock/autolock.jad

It activates the keyguard when the backlight automatically turns off.

On the install, you have to run it, and it will appear that nothing happens. It will just exit, and not show up in the application switcher, but it's running. It will autorun on startup, so you only have to do that the when you first install.

My eventual plan is to not have an icon at all, and just have an enable/disable in the options menu.

Metsfan - is the only way to stop the autolocking to delete that program?

Hrm, I thought I was subscribed to this thread but haven't been getting email updates.

There's a new version that has Enable/Disable and how long to wait after the backlight goes off before locking the keys in Options->AutoLock. Also, it removed the icon.

    Same download link.

Wish there was a way to "AutoStandby" instead of autolock =\

So do I. I haven't found a way to do it yet, though.

Re: does the 8100 have an autolock function

Is there no way to issue a held "*" button press after the backlight turns off to put the phone into standby mode?

By this weekend I should have a 32 bit system setup and running with the JDE installed. I hope to start making some basic JAVA apps as well.

Holding down * puts it in keylock, not standby mode. My application can do that right now (though it just calls lockSystem() instead of simulating the button press.) To put it in standby, I'd have to simulate the Mute key at the top, and can't see any way to do that.

I thought I was used to locking/unlocking my phone but now I realize that it's getting real annoying lol
