    do you need data plan to use wifi?



    hi im just wondering if you need a data plan to use the internet over a wifi connection? because when i click on the browser it takes me to tmobile homepage and when i type in an address it takes me too a page that says im not currently subscribed to any webtogo plans...any ideas? and at the top where it has the signal strength it says uma in capital letters and wifi underneath which is black and white which i assume means im connected to my wifi network ...

    You should be able to use the browser on a wifi connection without a data plan ( I have done it without even a SIM card)

    Try this. Start the Browser then hit Menu, General Properties, and set your default browser to Hotspot Browser and see if that helps...

    Thank you! You also solved our problem with my son's handed-down 8120 that his dad never did get to work with the browser. He never really cared because we just use the wifi for uma calling here at our home (no tower signal here in the boonies), but our son will get a kick out of using the browser. My 8220 will get here Monday, so I'll be able to start with ONE thing figured out!

    Also can use BeeJive the IM client strictly on wifi w/o SIM card or data plan. I have a 8120 laying around and it works.
