Question Do you feel you Pearl is a REAL blackberry

Had a discussion with a friend who noticed that I had upgraded to the pearl and the first thing out of his mouth was that they are not "real" blackberry’s referring to the size and limited functionality. I feel that the functionality is amazing and as far as the size, well that is what is bringing a lot of people to blackberry now. How do you X-larger blackberry users feel about your pearls performance? Do you feel that it is a full scale blackberry in a compact package or a blackberry wanna be?
I personally love my pearl and have not run into too many instances where it has come up short.

Well since this is my first BB I am not sure what the pearl has vs the larger units. This is coming from the same guy that was very quick to point out that my new Lexus is "really" a Toyota. Always trying to downplay whatever you do. And although I usually dismiss EVERYTHING he says, this time he got me thinking so I just wanted to get opinions from the people who actually own a pearl. I am by no means dissatisfied with my pearl, but having very limited blackberry experience wanted some insight.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I use everything on my Pearl except the camera, MP3 player, alarm, voice activated features (voice dialing and voice notes) and storage because I don't have a memory card. I used a 950, 7730, 7100t and 7105t before and I can say that this pearl (although its my 2nd as my first one crashed and was replaced) outdoes them all. I would be lost without it as I put almost everything I do in the calendar, or on a memo or task. Also, its small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. Couldn't do that with the others except the 950.

Its got all the same features with the exception of being able to completely fill your pockets if you can get it in at all. Sounds like he is jelouse (sp?)

The Pearl has more features than the 8700... Every BB that comes out has more features added including improvement over existing features than the BB that precedes it.

I am a newbie to the Pearl; carried the larger form-factor BB's for several years. I greatly prefer the Pearl, I feel it is a much better "phone" and a really, really nice PDA. I worried about the compact keyboard, it hasn't turned out to be the big deal I feared. My only preference for the full-QWERTY devices would be if I was in the field a lot and I created/replied to a lot of e-mail messages. The QWERTY board is quicker to me, but I find that I more or less monitor e-mail mostly. If something needs a quick reply, I can live with SureType. Bottom line: I luv my Pearl and don't suffer any Curve-envy at all!

I use the term friend loosly, he works across the hall from me so its more of forced interaction.

I heard the older models didn't make good phones.

hmm i think the smaller phones are the way blackberry is going since with the new patent of that wierd looking keyboard. Still the full qwerty keyboard will never go anywhere people just love it. only thing is you will be limited on how small the blackberry can get.
