    Disappearing Icons

I just got my Pearl about a week ago and 2 of my Icons have disappeared!
The web browser icon and the Media Net Icon.
This occured right after I hooked up the USB cable and installed the software
for the first time and also installed 3 new applications.
The new application Icons are there but my two browser Icons are totally
    gone!

Cingular says that they are experiencing this issue with some of their customers
on the Red Blackberry phones and told me to bring it back in and get a new
    one.

Is this true? After all of my settings made, now I have to go through the headache
of getting a new phone and setting it all up again?

Can anyone offer any help on this issue?

    Thanks.

P.S. I already tried the "Show All Option" it is enabled and none are "hiding"

lavagirl - do you have the red pearl?
i think this is what you were talking about, but not your issue at all.

i would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop software, and get a fresh download from RIM's site.

    also...try registering the handheld
    options/advanced options/host routing table
click menu and choose register now

i'll post some links to DM and how to get a clean uninstall

You will also need to download the Cingular red pearl OS. You can find the link to it in in this thread, Links to OS Software by Carrier . Once downloaded and before you connect your BB to your PC, just execute the downloaded file.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah, it's defintely the desktop software. I had the same problem and I have a black Pearl. Just download the DS and (re)install it.

I'm betting when you installed the Desktop Manager program, it was not setup right. Make sure you select Blackberry Internet Service when that option comes up. Like above, uninstall it and reinstall...you might not need to install the OS yet.

Cliff you would lose that bet. This is a known problem with the CD provided in the newer Pearl boxes. It causes one of the modules to be deleted, the first time a Pearl is connected to desktop manager. I'll find the BlackBerry knoweledge center article on it for you later this after noon.

    Re: Disappearing Icons

I have questons, please. This is more for the newer ATT branded Pearls, correct? I have a Cingular branded one. It seems OK so far. Should I be downloading the ATT branded OS?

Also, what does the new desktop software do for older models? At 231MB, I hope it does something!

    TIA!
Phone junkie! I've tried all types EXCEPT Blackberry! So I'm a BB Noob, please go easy on me, LOL!! I now have 3 Pearls, I guess that means I'm officially an addict?

pearldiva, branded phone has nothing to do the os branding. I have a tmo phone on at&t os. Upgrading your os is 100 percent up to you. I recommend it. each os update has at least one fix from a previous bug. on average
the new desktop manager allows you to control your media on your microcard using the roxio program.
hope this is what you are looking for

There won't be a conflict, it will just have them both on your PC. The OS is not carrier specific. Just delete the vendor.xml file.

    Re: Disappearing Icons

Thanks! I did that already to get rid of one conflict. So I guess any version software without the vendor file is fine then?

So I just realized I have the Cingular numbered OS on my T-Mobile, LOL! It works fine so far though.

    Yeah I'm a NOOB, don't laugh, LOL!

    Re: Disappearing Icons

Should I do a clean uninstall of the OS from my PC? I found out the newer ATT version is 2 decimals higher than what I have now, so I'm going to upgrade both. Is that necessary or can I just uninstall using the Control Panel? Is there a thread with directions for clean uninstall of OS?

I found the one for desktop software(thanks cherri!), so I will be doing a clean uninstall of the desktop software.

    Re: Disappearing Icons

You don't really need to delete the older versions of the handheld OS. It will just install the latest version that you have on your PC onto your BB. I keep the older versions on just incase I may need to downgrade.

Unless you have issues with your installation there is no reason for a clean install. Also a clean install would require a wipe of your handheld. If you really want I can find you a link.
