    Detection Problems?

I installed the Blackberry Software that came with my Cingular Blackberry Pearl, I have it hooked into my comp with the usb cable it came with and Blackberry Desktop just won't detect it.

I hard reseted the BB, restarted my comp, I've been at if for hours and I'm ready to chuck this thing at a wall.

Is there any mode I have to set the BB to so it can get detected?

    Any tips?

Have you tried all your USB ports?

Have you went to options>connection settings>detect?
    on the Desktop manager.

Yep, tried all 5 usb ports, went to options and the detect didn't pick it up.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

    Re: Detection Problems?

Have you tried something else on a USB port just to make sure it is working, like an MP3 Player? This will make sure the USB port is working.

If it does try a different USB cable for the BB if you have a spare. Maybe it is your cable.

Next thing I would try is another BB with the same PC, but that can be hard as most people don't have two at home.

Maybe reinstall the software on the PC, or look to see if a newer version is availble to upgrade.

If nothing else take it back to Cingular and say it won't connect. Maybe they can test it in the store to see as well.

I tried 2 different cables (one from the pearl box, and one I had on hand.) Tried all 4 ports. My microsoft "Add New Hardware Wizard" doesn't list it as a Blackberry but as a "RIM Composite Device" and "USB Composite Device"

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Is your device in mass storage mode? Maybe it *has* to be?

    Settings*options*advanced options*media card

    Just trouble shooting?

Have you opened Desktop Manager when it is attached? Sounds like the PC is picking it up.

I'm sorry, I have no idea on what you mean by "1.1".
