Re: Default all sms text & call log on 8100 disappeared! HELP!

this happened to me as well on my blackberry pearl. cingular just kept returning my phone and sending me a new one. i returned the phone 4 times because my texts/call logs were being deleted. they finally just sent me a blackberry curve. they said it had something to do with the memory. but when they tried to fix that on my phone, it was still an issue.

Hi pgre, Welcome to Pinstack. Sounds like you are low on memory. You can check under Options / Status - Read file free. Take a look at this thread for tips to correct this. http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...call_logs.html

Missing Call Logs and SMS Messages

    thanks.
To answer the 2nd question first, no, it is not possible to retrieve that info. It is gone unfortunately.
The reason why it happened was your Blackberry ran out of memory and the Blackberry Memory Manager will delete Call Logs and SMS messages.

A good habit to get into is a couple times a week, pull the battery from your Blackberry with the Blackberry on. If you have Pics on your blackberry, put them on a memory card if you have one. If you don't, they're cheap, go buy one and save all your pics and muzik to your card instead of the BB itself.

Here is a Database article from RIM on more of that issue:

Call and SMS logs disappear when BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory

    Doc ID : KB11570
    Last Modified : 2007-05-17
    Document Type : Support

    Environment
    • BlackBerry® smartphone
    • BlackBerry Device Software 4.2
Problem When the BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory, Short Message Service (SMS) logs and call logs disappear.
Cause When the BlackBerry smartphone becomes critically low on memory, SMS messages and call logs will automatically be deleted in order to keep a minimum amount of free space available. This functionality is by design.

Resolution If the BlackBerry smartphone becomes low on memory, try the following:
    • Check how much memory is currently available. See KB04353 for further information.
    • Ensure that media is saved on the media card, and not on the BlackBerry smartphone.
    • Since web browsing results in cached files on the BlackBerry smartphone try clearing the browser cache. See KB03865 for further information.
    • Lower the reserved picture memory setting. See KB12383 for further information.
    • Use the application loader tool to remove any unused applications, such as themes, ring tones, or third-party applications.
    • Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. Check the available memory after the hard reset. See KB02141 for further information.
If the issue still persists, perform the following, checking the available memory after each step.
    • Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions see KB02141. Then clear unnecessary calls logs and phone messages.
    • Remove Phone Call and SMS log databases from the BlackBerry smartphone. See KB03974 for further information.
    • Perform an application load to erase all applications and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software. See KB03621 for further information.

After this happened to me a second time, I contacted tmobile about it. When the memory is low, the phone will automatically erase the call log and texts as a way of creating more space. A suggestion they gave me was to invest in a memory card or save certain messages. Hope this helped.
