    Dead 8110 after 4.5 update

Just updated my 8110 to 4.5 software via blackberry.com, and now my phone will not turn on. The indicator light keeps flashing red, but booting up is a no-go. I've done a battery pull, re-attempted to update the software, attempted to do a restore via bb desktop manager, and none of it was successfull....

    Any suggestions?

I had that problem too when I updated to 4.5. But I can't exactly remember what I did since I was freaking out and also did the things you described, but in a state of panic.

I either connected my phone to my PC then started Desktop Manager - or the other way around - started DM first, then connected my phone to the PC. That alone may have booted my phone up.

If it wasn't that, then I might have taken the battery out, connected the phone to my PC, started DM, then put the battery back in.

Or simply connected the phone to my PC while it was off, then started DM, then turned the phone on.

Again, sorry I can't remember the exact steps I took, but other then the different variations you can try as I described, it was simply a matter of having the phone connected to the PC and DM up and running. I don't know if it will work for you, but I'm hoping it does since I know what it feels like to have your precious pearl sitting there looking dead.

You would need to wipe the device - visit my blog and you'll find a How To use JL_Cmder/download there.
From there go to This page and download the latest OS for your 8110.

If you have problems with the above 2 steps, post back and let us know.

Did you try to reload your OS through the app loader in the resaerch in motion files?
to do so. Close DM. Then go to my computer/program files/ common file/Reasearch in Motion/app loader
Then click the Loader icon and follow the prompts.
This sometimes works on the 83xx's. As for the 81xx's I'm not sure. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to hurt anyone's precious berry.
If that doesn't work, I know first hand that Supur Duper Lavagirl's instructions for wiping the phone with jl cmder are clear and helpful.
Good luck. I hope it works out well for you.

When I attempt to reload the OS, this is the message I get : Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation.

Phone stays dead, and indicator light just blinks red every so often.

    Try the following:

    1. Instead of Desktop Manager try the Loader application (found here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)
    2. Select Do Not Back up & Restore when prompted

If this continues to fail, try loading 4.2 again. You may need to use a different machine in order to install 4.5 (I did)
