    Data storage question

Hi guys I have a question about the storage on Pearl.

In the Options -> Status screen it's telling me the following:

    File Free: 7054032
    File Total: 65142784

So it's telling me I've around 7MB free from a total of around 64MB, right?

But then if I look at the database sizes themselves it says the Total Size is 1111.6K which is about 1.1MB, right?

In which case where has all the space gone on the device? I don't have that many applications and my messages are set to clear after 30 days.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

    Andy

What the heck!! I powered it off and took the battery out and now it's showing 23776452 bytes free.

    What's going on?

    Hi APJ,

My guess is that when you did your battery pull, it cleared whatever cache you had stored up on your device, therefore freeing up your memory. I've noticed on both my 8700 and my 7290 that pulling the battery sometimes frees up some space.. not generally that much, but hey, why look a "gift of memory" in the mouth?

    apj30, Welcome to PinStack.

This is normal with the BB. A periodic Cold Reboot (Battery Out, wait 15-30 sec, Battery Back in) will do wonders to clear up memory and other problems.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

Thanks guys for your comments and your welcome.

Just had a shock though - all my messages from November have been wiped!

Any ideas what the heck is going on??

    Thanks,

    Andy

You also need to make sure you dont leave programs open and close them properly when done. I used to just ESC or END to get out but that still leaves the programs running but it looks like they close. Always use the menu and select close or use the programs close/exit option.

I maxed out my memory a few times by having so many programs loaded that I thought I closed.
