Question Couple of questions from a newbie

    First of all, Hello World!

As you can see I'm new to the site and as of last Saturday, new to Blackberry phones. I have a couple of questions for you guys to see if you can answer them.

I own a Cingular branded, unlocked 8100 Pearl but I'm on a network with no blackberry data plans, only Sony Ericsson EMO. I'm currently using Opera Mini with my carriers EDGEnetwork.

    So the questions are.

    1) Can I use the Blackberry Browser instead of Opera Mini?
    2) How can I check my email OTA using the EDGE network? (when I type an email it says it will be sent when I connect the phone to the Desktop Manager)

    Hi and Welcome!

Unfortunately there won't be to much you can do without Data. Opera Mini is working without a data plan?

    Nelson,
if you dont have a data plan you wont be able to use opera mini; it only works with data, just like jivetalk or BB Maps.

Opera Mini is working just fine. I'm talking about emails and google talk. When I open Google Talk it tells me that I don't have the required service books. And when I open the Blackberry browser it tells me I don't have the Browser Configuration Service Book Entries.

I also can't find a way to configure my email on the device.

Well, I've been reading up a bit and what my service provider doesnt have is a BIS. I do currently have a data plan with my provider as I am able to browse using Opera Mini. Is there a way I can check my email or browse using the default applications even if my provider doesnt have a BIS?

Can I buy this service from another company?
