    Couple of Newbie Questions

    Hi folks,

Here are my questions of the day

    1) I don't have data plan (yet). So, there is a "data connection refused" message on my screen. Is there any way to get rid of this message in the mean time I sign up for a data plan.

    2) In my previous phone (non blackberry), when someone called and say I was unable to answer (in a meeting etc.), I used to be able to hit the side button and quieten the phone. I haven't been able to do that with my Pearl. Is there a way that I can quieten the Pearl while it's ringing (of course, without answering the phone )

    Let me know please. Thanks!

As far as the connection refused thing, i'm not sure. But for the meeting issue, all you have to do is scroll down to ignore with the track ball (while recieving a call) and it should due the trick.

Thanks for the reply Jimbo. The "ignore" feature really "ignores" the caller i.e. the moment I hit ignore on the phone, it immediately directs the caller to the voicemail. Sometimes, you don't want to let the caller know that you looked at the phone and then hit ignore

    Any other solution to this?

For #1 go to options>network and you can turn data services off. I beleive that will solve your problem.

For # 2 the button on top of the phone when pressed durring an incomming call will silence your phone ringer....

1 - No, there is no way to get rid of the message. Once you sign up for a data plan it will be replaced with the network you're connected to.

2 - Unless you have "any key answer" turned on, any button should mute the phone from ringing. I usually use the back button. It mutes it without ignoring the call. Also, I thought deholstering, then reholstering the phone would mute it. I could be wrong though. Somebody call me, and I'll figure it out.
