they told you wrong. OZ Instant Messenger is the only one that uses text. the rest use data.

Yeah I would check on that.

This is one of the nice features of JiveTalk. This is taken from beejive.com:

JiveTalk™ uses your phone's data plan - No per message charges.

    Re: Confused

    Ok.

So where do i get the "Enabler"? That will solve the MMS problem?

And about the instant messaging service, I know that it was not possible without a data plan. But the text I recieved this morning made me think that instant messaging was possible now. On my last phone I had MSN messaging and did not have a data plan. Is there a way to download it and run it without a data plan?

    Thanks.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ what you are talking about, is the OZ messenger. I don't think TMobile will enable it without having a blackberry plan, you'll need one of the two that I listed earlier.
Now a blackberry plan and a data plan are different things. If you are paying for unlimited messaging now, I think it is only a small amount more to get the blackberry/messaging bundle. It might be something you'd want to look into.

    Re: Confused

Okay, I just looked on T-mo's site, for 14.99 you can have unlimited text, instant, picture, and video messaging. I believe it used to be seperated into different types, this is probably where your original text msg from t-mo came from. You now get all four types of messaging for the same price. I think they were just trying to let you know about the change.

So, if you would like to stick with the Instant Messaging that T-mo uses, do this. It is not true IM, it still uses text messages in the background, but you have unlimited, so who cares, right? You're still going to have to get on the phone and work with Cust care to figure out what they have to enable to get this to work with a blackberry. Thats option 1.

Option 2. You can upgrade to the Blackberry Unlimited w/messaging plan for $19.99. You will get more out of your BB, plus you get the unlimited messaging you had before. This time though you have a BIS account setup where you can get the features enabled that you are looking for. The extra features you would get, are up to 10 email accounts forwarded to your BB, and you will be able to use the Blackberry Messenger. This is an additional type of messaging that uses PIN-to-PIN messages. The messages go straight from blackberry to blackberry. It's kind of like a blackberry only club, Thats why people share their PIN's all over these forums

How's that? Did I get it right this time?

    Re: Confused

From experience...there is indeed a service from TMO called Blackberry Enabler. It is free and will allow IM and T zones access. The IM service uses text message credits, but works with an AIM account for example (I have used it as such) so if you have an unlimited text plan then all is still free. Call TMO and ask them to add Blackberry enabler, and it should add the T zones and IM icons to your phone.

I cannnot say what is causing your MMS problem, however TMO now treats SMS and MMS the same (and same price). Did you every try the menu in the photo application to see if MMS was an option?

are you sure messenging is included in that? bc i pay the $19.99 for unlimited data, and have to pay $9.99 for 1000 messages. i don't think any messages are included in that...

EDIT: "Blackberry Unlimited Add-On" ($19.99) - Add access to BlackBerry's powerful data functionality to a voice rate plan. The BlackBerry Unlimited Add-on includes unlimited BlackBerry Web Client e-mail and Web browsing.

i think one needs to take more than their emails into consideration before making that determination. how much internet browsing do they use? how much are they on a data instant messenger (like jivetalk)? how many OTA things do they download? all that, along with their emails, will eventually add up making the $20 worth it instead of overage charges if they have a limited data plan. depends on what they use.
