I have the 1G card almost full of songs; is there any way to further compress them to incresase the number of songs on the card? Thanks,

There is a program called dbpoweramp convertor, it will allow you to fully control what settings your songs are at. Keep the songs at about 192kbps and you will get about 300 on there, lower the kbps and you will fit many more.

You might want to even lower it to 32kbps, that's the setting for all of the songs I have on my PSP and they still sound great, just make sure you have a decent pair of headphones. I bought my Phillips headphones for. $15 at Walmart.

I'd say that 128 is about the lowest you can go without hearing noticable difference. Unless it's classical music or something. If it's talk or podcast or something, you can go even lower, 96 or less. Of course it depends on your speakers or headphones as to how good the sound will be.
But ultimately to answer the question, lower the bitrate and fit more songs.

96kbps keeps the songs at a good clarity and saves more space...It depends whether your using headphones or your speaker that makes the noise difference since the pearl speaker isnt made with a grill or padding
