Probably not, I'm pretty sure TMO Pearls are carrier locked. You would need to get the Unlock Code from TMO or a commercial unlocking service

Question Re: Changing a Service provider

I just bought an 8100 T-Mobile Pearl that's unlocked, and I'm considering my carrier options before I buy a SIM card, etc. And suggestions as I get my feet wet in the world of Blackberry?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I like Tmobile. I would check coverage in your area for all providers. Look for good coverage and lowest price.

Unfortunately, the T-Mobile coverage in my area is terrible. I'm considering Verizon, or Cellular One, as well as others which have good coverage, but I'm not sure an unlocked T-Mobile is going to be 100% compatable.

Even unlocked, The 8100 will not be compatable on either of those networks. (Cellone is now Alltel) Alltel and Verizon are both CDMA and the 8100 is a GSM band device.

If you manage to unlock it, you can go to AT&T but they already carry a Pearl, you might be better off getting a new one there.

As far as i know, it's already unlocked. I may go with T-Mobile after all. I'm looking at compatable SIM cards on Ebay now.

In New York, AT&T and Verizon are really the two options. T-Mobile service is terrible. THe pearl you have wouldn't work on verizon though. Verizon just released their pearl a few days ago. I switched to AT&T in June from Verizon because Verizon wasn't getting any decent BB's and I'm very happy with AT&T. The service is just as good as verizon and I got the phones I wanted.

I wouldn't bother with buying a new sim from Ebay. You get one with activation anyway.

    Re: Changing a Service provider

Yeah, only if I want to buy a service contract. Radio Shack offered me a SIM card only if I would sign up for a pricey service plan, after which they'd take the one out of their "free" phone and put it in my Blackberry. No thanks.

I'd rather pick up a SIM card and then choose my own service provider online.
