Carphone Warehouse - O2 "Unlimited Data"

    Hi,

I have just purchased a Blackberry Pearl on O2 from the Carphone Warehouse.
I took out the £10 "unlimited" data package, mainly to allow unlimited IM.

I received a letter from CPW welcoming to the new contract, but it did not mention unlimited data. I called them for confirmation and was told, NO, I have unlimited emails, but not browsing or IM. I said that this was not what I was after and quoted the O2 brochure. They said that's with O2 direct, you are with O2 CPW and there is nothing we can do about it.

    Great customer service eh?

I just thought I would let you all know in case you fall into the same trap.

    Thanks
    Mike

Re: Carphone Warehouse - O2 "Unlimited Data"

    Hi,

I'm also with O2 via CPW, but I actually asked CPW three times :

    1) 1 CPW said all internet was included, two other CPW said it was only for email.

    2) I called O2 and said I was on £35/m + £10/m data through CPW and they confirmed it is a unlimited (75meg anyway) plan.

I've got my first bill and so far there are no other charges related to my internet usage - I use mobile internet / jive talk / google maps quite a bit - mobile email (push email) I don't use that often as it's a personal phone.

So don't be that worried yet.. I'll wait till I get my 2nd bill to ensure that it wasn't just a delayed charge to the bill for the mobile data. But all signs are looking ok so far.

(PS. Did have another friend on O2 through CPW as well, and he has got several bills and no extra Internet charges)

    Jonathan

Re: Carphone Warehouse - O2 "Unlimited Data"

Thanks for your replies, but after a call with CPW customer services where I was told "tough, you have signed the contract, it's your problem" I raced into the store this morning and demanded that they take it back.

To be honest, they couldn't have been nicer about it, especially once the salesman read in the CPW buyers guide that the £10 is for UNLIMITED DATA, which we both agreed should include IM and Browsing.

He called cutomer service to confirm this and was told it is 75mb for email, but IM and browsing is charged at £3/MB which he was later told it was £0.85/mb and later again £3/mb.
I said to be honest, I would feel more comfortable, just walking away from the situation. He agreed and processed the return.

I popped into O2 and got one there. More minutes, same texts and unlimited data for the same price, and on an upgrade so I get to keep the same number. Hopefully peace at last.
The only thing is, I was told it could take up to 48 hours for the data to come live. I am now 2 hours in and the Blackberry still says "data connection refused"

    Thanks
    Mike

On experience Mike with o2 - it does really take them 24 hrs for the data to come up...I know its a pain...but glad you got it sorted. CPW are fine for some stuff but they arent knowledgeable enough on specialist areas...Have to say the UK is a bit behind when it comes to BB.

    Glad its sorted though
