Ben - you did not mention if you tried to re-install your OS? I was reading today and saw another post about Toshiba and BB problems...I hope that does not turn out to be your problem.

Yeah...not bad for a Sidekick user...

This needs to be at the start of every answer that involves system upgrades, re-loads, etc in big bold letters...

LOL I remembered from an older thread that the Desktop Manager CD that comes with newer Pearls have problems. I do also have a Pearl but I am waiting on my 2nd replacement to show up.

Oh by the way, it may be your PC. I have a Toshiba Satellite Notebook and my first 2 Pearls connected to it fine via DM (before they crapped out).

Also, considering how I have this much experience with the phone, I can't for the life of me figure out why I am the one having all the problems and everyone else's is working fine.

Hi, No i did not re-install my OS. Its my office laptop so I cannot afford to re-install OS and then have to reinstall all programs...would be too much work for my low tech level.

You will need to reinstall it somehow in order to get the PC to recognize the BB.

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

But my issue is a little different:

If I remove the battery from BB, then its smooth and recognized and syncs without a problem. it seems like the problem comes back after a few days for some reason...

Why would battery removal temporarly solve the problem?

Will consider re-installing the OS. Thanks for the advice.

Doing a battery pull is the first thing to try any time your BB starts acting up. It will usually cure any minor issues.

If you are having this issue with the DM every few days, but a battery pull clears it up, I would verify that you have the most up to date DM. Download and install the 4.2 SP2 to your PC if you don't have it already.

What OS version are you running?

    Hi Ben

I think you may have misunderstood...we want you to reinstall or upgrade the operating system on your blackberry, not your laptop.

Take a look here and please confirm.

    Bad news folk.
There is absolutely nothing you can do to resolve the recent spate of Pearl/DM USB connection woes - at least if you are running Windows 2000 or similar.
I have now suffered this for 3+weeks and my IT depratment has slaved away, with MS and RIM's input - to no avail.
There is a recognised problem with a recent Windows 2000 patch that stopped DMs and Pearls connecting, when previously they did.
I don't know if this problems extends to other versions of Windows.
I regret to say that no known fix is currently available.
Please let me know if and when you hear of one. This is just dire.

    Hi LatuFu,

yes i misunderstood, thought it was laptop!
    My 8300 is running: v4.4.4.114 (platform 2.4.0.53)
By the way how do I reinstall the BB os?

I observed an even more interesting phenomenom:
    - I have an office in 2 locations, when I am in my main office location and connect to DM then I have this issue reappearing quite frequently or everyday
    - when i i am working from my second office location (same laptop of course) I do not seem to have this problem...weird!

Could this mean it is linked to a ethernet that screws up my DM connection or router or something like that?

    Ben

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

I found this conversation thread and wonder if any consensus has been reached about what to do when you get a "Device not found" error. I need to use my BB Pearl with a different computer (a Dell desktop running Windows XP). I downloaded the DM_v4.2.2.14, plugged my BB into the USB port on the front of the deskstop, then opened up the DM-->Options-->Connection Settings. I select USB for the Connection, hit Detect, and then get the "Device not found" message.

I downloaded the SP2 and I've tried clicking on "scan for hardware changes" using the My Computer-->Harware-->Device Manager-->Universal Serial Bus controllers, but neither of these things helps.

My BB does show the little plug icon, so it is detecting that it is plugged into my computer.

    Has any solution been found?

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

I was experiencing this problem as well after my Pearl crashed & I was trying to restore it. A BB tech support rep told me to do this, which worked perfectly: 1) have the Pearl USB UNPLUGGED from the computer with the DM open to the "options" page . 2) click on "find USB" and then IMMEDIATELY connect the USB to the Pearl. This must be done within about 3 seconds of clicking the "find USB" button. Hope it works for you.....
