However, I obviouslty can't update my phone, and thus hopefully improve it's ability to sync with DM, until I can get DM to detect my phone. I don't know if I did myself any favor by installing a version of DM that is different from what is featured on TMO's website.
Neither of those matters. You can use any carrier's OS provided that it is the OS for the 8100. Additionally, your BB's OS and DM do not need to match version numbers to work. Your issue lies elsewhere.

When uninstalling DM, are you performing a clean uninstall? Refer to RIM's knowledgebase for detailed steps.

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

This whole situation has been growing progressively worse. I actually went to the trouble of doing a clean install on my MacBook and reinstalling Parallels, Windows XP, DM and the 2.4 update from scratch. I have followed all directions carefully. The end result is that I have a dead phone that is unable to establish any link, however tenuous, to my 8100. I have owned lots of phones and other assorted digital goodies but have NEVER encountered a situation as frustrating as this. I am begining to wonder if my 8100 isn't the culprit given the highly erratic nature of the problems that I am experiencing.

An update for anyone who may be following this thread. According to a TMO BlackBerry Tech Support Specialist with whom I spoke the night before last; the Parallels application is not supported by BlackBerry. AFAIK, there is no reliable way to perform system updates on a BlueBerry device on a Mac.

Question Failed to connect to device

    Hi All:

I also have a connection problem between my BB and the DM software. Not too sure how to solve it. I am completely new to BB. Had many palms and decided to switch to BB recently. It worked the first time I connected the BB and now always have this annoying connection problem...please help!

    My BB:
Curve 8300, bought in August 07 in Hong Kong
    My computer:
Toshiba portege 2004, running Windows XP SP2
    My DM:
Installed from CD. Version is 4.2.2.12 (Mar 19 2007)

    Problem description:
    1. I open the DM application
    2. I connect my BB using the USB cable
    3. I hear the USB connecting to device
    4. DM window shows 'connected' - 'working' (BB seems to respond and shows 'connected to desktop' for 2-3 seconds)
    5. Then, intellisync error window pops-up with the following message: "Failed to connect to device. Please make sure that the device is properly connect and try again"
    6. Obviously from then onwards it will not synchronize and will always show error window.

    What I have tried already:
    - Port detect in DM connection settings, no problem, it detects my BB PIN
    - uninstalled and re-installed the DM, no change
    - updated USB port drivers, no change
    - removed the BATTERY from my BB. Miracle!! that works and then I can synchronize again with outlook with no problem. However, this is not satisfying and I do not want to have to remove the BB battery, wait for 10 minutes for the BB to restart each time I synchronize, its totally ridiculous...

Anyone can give me some help on that matter? would really appreciate that!

    Thanks so much in advance!

    Benjamin

    Ben....

First thing I would recomend is a DM re-install. Uninstall ther current Desktop and Device Manager and download 4.2.2.14 sp1 from RIM

    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

That alone may fix your issue. Many of the CD versions shipped with phones seem to be a bit buggy. Post back and let us know the results.

you can also try downloading the USB drivers that are listed on the same page...it's USB drivers only and it's at the very bottom of the BB download page from garyF's post above...oh and please remember to select the correct language for your drivers

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

I m kinda crazy at times...my bb was not connecting to my pc come to find out the USB cable was unplugged; then a couple of days later I go to do a backup and restore and I get the error msg that DM does not recognize the bb...I could run the app loader and the media backup but not to actually back up the bb...I then ran the app loader and when I go to the area where all the stuff you have on the bb are listed I select advance and it went through the motions of asking if I want to backup data etc I then click back and I notice it started working, I guess it was just a quirk!

    Hi Gary,
Some feedback: I had downloaded 4.2 SP2 before seeing your post so I installed it but no change...then I saw your post and tried to download but for some reason it did not let me download since website recognized my IP being Chinese and then blocks downloads, that kind of stupid isn't it?

Finally I just couldn't take it anymore so I resigned to doing the same I did 3 times: removing the battery from my BB. After putting it back in and reloading, the connection works flawlessly and synchronization is no problem.

I just cannot believe that I have to take out my BB's battery each time I want to sync, it seems ridiculous!

I guess after I use the port for another app (printer) the port gets screwed up and BB connection is not flawless.

    Any advise?

    Cheers,

    Ben

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

    Hi Ben,

OK - sounds like you have to most current DM and you are not running Vista (which does not seem to play well with BB's yet) Are you connected directly to your computer or thru an external hub? I have noticed the that BB prefers to be connected directly to your computer. Have you installed any new applications? What Operating System do you have? It may help to download and reinstall your OS or even upgrade.
Otherwise after reviewing your posts of all that you have already tried sorry to say I am stumped this morning. I will look around and see if I can find any more info on this.

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

Ben: This may not be the answer you want to hear, but I have seen several users with Toshiba PCs that are not able to get the DM to recognize the device. They resorted to using a different PC to get the DM to work. If you have access, you may want to try to get DM to work on another PC, just to make sure you are following all the steps properly.

If it does turn out to be the Toshiba issue, I have to admit I don't know how to go about resolving that. Everyone else that has had the problem simply used a different PC, so it was never solved.

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ try this but not sure if it will fix the problem. Uninstall dm completely. Before reinstalling it, reboot pc and I believe you hit f2 to get into bios during bootup. There should be an option to reset your optimal settings. Before exiting, see if you can find this setting called 'legacy usb support' and possibly a 'plug and play
' option are both enabled. Save before exiting out of the bios. When system starts, plug your BB in first to see if it detects it before installing dm.if that doesn't work, go to your pc device manager and under the ports/com devices, make sure they are all enabled. If all fails, do a google search search for rarepair.exe. Download and run it. Good luck

Something to think about. My BB is supplied by employer. We have our own BES server. I have found that if I am out of the office. My BB will not connect successfully to my laptop untill I connect via VPN to my work network. Then it will connect successfully. It needs to communicate with the mail server before it will successfully connect. Maybe you can try going to "mail" in Windows control panel and create a email profile for your BB to use. Just a shot in the dark.

Oh, use the email information from your provider for your email account that matches the info of your device.

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

    All:

Some update on my DM / BB connection issue.

To try another option, I decided to try to sync my BB by using bluetooth thinking it might solve the problem of having to use the USB cable which I thought was causing the issue. After uninstalling the Toshiba bluetooth driver and re-installing the windows one (which was clearly stated as a must do step in the pinstack forum) I was able to sync my BB thru BT! awesome. Issue seemed resolved for a few days.

Until today I try to sync again my BB and when I connect it to my tochiba laptop and to DM it again says connected but gives me this 'intellisync' error window saying not connected, try again. I am just fed-up of this issue!!

As I told you guys the only work around that I found so far is to REMOVE THE BATTERY from the BB and its fixes the problem for a few days or a few sync!! It seems so unreal to me!! why would removing the battery and resetting the BB solve the problem??? is it some 'static' building up in the BB and interferences betweem my laptop and BB??

Can someone give me the appropriate answer?

Using another computer brand is not an option unfortunately. I use a toshiba at work and cannot easily change computer brand just because my sync of BB is screwed up...

Help please, I cannot take the fact that I have to remove my BB's battery each time I need to sync and have to wait 15 minutes before BB restarts...it seems completely crazy...

    Thanks!

    Ben

Re: Cannot connect to DM no matter what... "device not found"

    Gary:

    More info on my system.

OS: windows XP SP2 (not running vista)
    BB: Curve
    DM: 4.2.2.14
    Computer: Toshiba Portege M300
Applications: not installed any applications before I installed BB DM a few weeks ago

Only 2 fixes that I found for now:
    - uninstall the toshiba bluetooth driver and reinstall windows bluetooth driver
(this seemed for some reason to solve the issue, but issue is back)
    - remove the BB battery solves the problem each time
(but why? and very annoying fix, since long wait each time)

    Help!

    Ben

Did you USB drivers get messed up or something?
I figured I was correct when I recommended that a few posts back.
